13 wks - swollen face

My grandson's cheeks are swelling 2 - 3 times a day. This has been happening for 5 weeks. He's been taken to GP several times and had one lot of antibiotics on the third visit for a suspected ear infection.

This is continuing to happen every day. It is slowly becoming worse. He has a slight temperature (37.2 - 37.5) when this is happening, his cheeks are red and hot to touch. The swelling is very spherical almost looks like golf balls inside his cheeks. The redness has extended recently from his cheeks, up the side of his eyes and above his brows.

When this is not happening he is such a happy little chap and not a minute's bother.

Yesterday and today he has cried and been unsettled most of the day.

The GP doesn't want to see him at the moment as the swelling is 'temporary' (going up and down all the time).

What could this be. Any ideas?
The GP ruled out teeth and allergy.

Just wondering how the GP has ruled out teeth and allergy without having seen him?

Ruled it out over the telephone somehow. Also, my daughter had to hold the phone to his mouth and then chest and wait for it ..... chest infection was ruled out?? Over the phone!

Poor little boy, could it be an allergy? I would definitely be getting a second opinion, that doctor sounds useless!

Yes, think you definitely need to keep on with the GP. Film him when he has the swelling and also when he doesn't do they have a comparison.

If it happens again I think I'd be asking for a referral to a Paed.

I would call 111 for advice especially if you think its getting worse.

Yes - 111 directed her back to GP. This has been going on for six weeks now. GP covers themselves by saying if he gets worse ring straight back but when she rings back they don't want to see him.

They are happy that it's nothing serious because it's intermittent (2 or 3 times a day) but my daughter is struggling with the thought that something isn't right.

She has said she has photos and videos of before and after which she can send in. The gp has said they will contact a paediatrician to see if they are 'interested' in seeing him.

She has no choice but to wait - I assumed the doctors would be more concerned.

I'm wondering how many people are harmed from being blocked from appointments due to this virus?
