Baby has intolerance to cows milk? TMI photo**

I'm really worried my baby might have an intolerance to cows milk (can't think what else could be the issue)

Since she was around 6 weeks (maybe even before) I've noticed my baby's stools are always explosive. Never solid, but never "watery" either. She's always been on Aptamil formula, now I use a prep machine but previously I did old fashioned boiled kettle way (her poos have always been the same never changed since swapping to prep machine) and I use a cold water sterilised with tablets and make sure they're always done properly.

As a baby, she cries quite often, she seems to always sound like her tummies rumbling When drinking bottles and is a fussy feeder (never sits still when feeding) she's currently on 5oz and does finish most, every 3 hours roughly. Tried putting her up to 6oz but she doesn't finish it. She is 11 weeks today.

She also has gas all the time haha

She's never had any rashes or anything else, but I'm just convinced there's something not right with her! doctors previously told me she has reflux and we were given gaviscon but it doesn't seemed to of done much so we stopped using this. Does anyone have any advice? Sorry for long post but I just want some answers until I can try the doctors again Monday. Just with all the Coronavirus issues currently not sure if we will be seen soon enough.

I have added a photo of her stools to see if anyone agrees that it isn't normal?

TYIA x

Forgot to add, she has been gaining weight fine and thriving. Other than the above she is healthy

Anyone??

Looks almost identical to my 12 week. Old son, though we moved from aptimal pee made to the powder this week and his poops are now creamy.

Mine also has reflux which can cause gas and tinny rumbles, but the poop looks normal to me.

From what I've heard allergy poop is very mucusy which your pic doesn't look like to me.

Is your little one otherwise happy? Is the fussiness all day or just at night? What size teat and what bottles are you using?

sophiemarie2020 · 28/03/2020 17:04

@MoominKitty we are using mam bottles size 0 teats as whenever we've tried bigger ones she ends up spitting it all out from the sides!

And she is a happy baby but she can have her bad days and last few days she's been bad but she just had her first jabs so that's probably why. But she's always fussy with her feeding moving her head to the side and then crying etc x

Is she crying after feeding? Throwing it all back up? My son was so so fussy after feeding he would just scream and scream then sick everything back up. He has a cmpa

sophiemarie2020 · 28/03/2020 18:15

@Elephantonascooter no she doesn't actually, she is sometimes a little sick but she doesn't always scream whilst feeding. Only sometimes. She just moves her head away from the test but will then take it if we put it back in and repeat again it's odd! But not always. It's so hard to tell what could be wrong just makes me feel I'm doing something wrong or she isn't enjoying it

Ahh, I moved my boy upto size 2 when he was 10 weeks due to giving up on bottles and he takes 6oz on one now, used to fuss at the bottle and only take 2 before.

Mine was supper fussy after his jabs and then the growth spurt at ten weeks.

Have you thought about anti refux milk at all?

EllenRipley · 28/03/2020 18:46

Oh, happy memories! My son developed this straight after one of his vaccinations. He once projectile poo-ed all over me, the wall and my laptop. We got the drops you out in milk to get rid of the lactose - I can't remember what it's called! It seemed to work tho it took a few months for his bowels to get back to normal.

sophiemarie2020 · 28/03/2020 19:04

@MoominKitty I might try to put her up a teat tomorrow and see how she goes. I'm more worried about her poos though, they just always seem ginormous. She goes only once a day though, sometimes she doesn't but she will always go the next day. However online it says it's normal for formula fed babies to not be as often. I tried anti reflux milk once and she really didn't take to it - doctor also never told me to do this so I stopped after a day, il contact the doctors Monday and ask for advice!

I can't wait for her to be a little older so she can start telling me what the problems are, always feel like a terrible mother when I can't make her better straight away 😩

Having had two cmpa babies (who admittedly were bf), that poop just looks like typical baby poop.

mynameiscalypso · 28/03/2020 19:09

Everything you've said (and the pic) sounds and looks entirely normal. DS is 7 months, always had nappies like that until weaning started and they were often more disgusting. He is also legendarily windy. He had a little bit of reflux but he's basically a normal FF baby according to everyone!

MoominKitty · 28/03/2020 19:19

Honestly that looks identical to my sons don't worry.

Oh I know I can't wait till he can speak its the not knowing isn't it.

You're doing fantastic don't worry.

carly2803 · 28/03/2020 19:50

poos look normal! My littlest was a shit machine - literally so bad no shorts were allowed. I was always envious of people who let their tiny ones play in the house in a vest and nothing else, nope pants here.

dont worry too much OP, they are normal!

I think the first few months (years?) of parenthood are basically just one long period of amazement that something so small can produce so much (both in terms of volume and smell)

sophiemarie2020 · 28/03/2020 19:58

Thank you for the advice guys @MoominKitty @Elephantonascooter

On another note, after the first immunisations, is it quite normal for them to be unsettled 2 days after? She's had a croaky voice for the last two days, she feeds okay but is so unsettled on a night from about 5pm onwards? 😩 getting so hard now to deal with. I've been giving her calpol every 4.5 hours for last 2 days, she's 11 weeks. Normally she sleeps fine on a night, wakes up once or twice.

Also thanks to others for commenting it didn't let me tag you in! I just hope things start to get better (we can hope) 😂

MoominKitty · 28/03/2020 20:05

Mine was unsettled for about a week after his, not ill just whinging and wriggly, it doesn't help the injections coincide with growth weeks too, mines only got back to normal ten days ago and he's due his second lot any day now, had to delay due to doctors needing to deep clean due to selfish people tiring up with corvid symptoms....

Selfsettling3 · 28/03/2020 20:09

I have two children with CMPA and that poo looks normal. It does look like you need to go up a nappy size.

sophiemarie2020 · 28/03/2020 20:29

@MoominKitty oh bloody hell I've got the same issue here she can't have hers for another few weeks! Hope she gets better soon though I'm absolutely drained me and my partner don't get a minute as it stands 😂

@Selfsettling3 yeah we have gone up a nappy size we realised after this it was time 😩

OP posts:
Missmonkeypenny · 28/03/2020 20:37

My 3 month old has CMPA and that looks nothing at all like his nappies, just normal baby poo. CMPA nappies are mucusy and in our case, green and very wet sounding.

Preggers86 · 05/04/2020 14:23

This looks exactly like my daughter's nappies who is also on aptimal. She will go once day, twice at the most and some days not at all. She is not in any pain or discomfort and doesn't have any issues passing stools. This is just her norm. We just know that if she haven't been one day that an explosion is just around the corner. We found going up a nappy size really helped contain the mess as well as changing her as soon as she is finished. She is also very windy and her flatulence has been blamed many a time on other members of household.

So I would agree with everyone else that as long as there is no pain or discomfort and no sudden change in the consistency then it is perfectly normal. 😊
