Sicky baby - breastmilk intolerance?

Hello 👋

My LG is 6 weeks old tomorrow and I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. She has been very sicky which we bave been to the GP about and spoken to midwives and the HV but really wondering if it's something more that reflux... we have tried infacol and baby Gaviscon, the infacol maybe works a bit sometimes but not much.

I'm wondering if she has an intolerance to something I'm eating that comes out in my breast milk? I've noticed since giving birth that I seem to be more sensitive to dairy so wonder if it could be this. She spits up and I know being sick is a normal baby thing but nearly every day recently she has projectile vomited once a day and it's sooo much sick, just goes everywhere so I want to try something else so see if it helps her, she also gets very uncomfortable for a while before it happens and we know it's inevitable.

Has anyone else given up something in their diet (dairy?) and has it made a difference with your baby?

Thanks!

Is she unwell or not gaining weight? Some babies are just very sicky, two of mine vomitted constantly for the first 6ish months.

Is she gaining weight well, sleeping well, developing normally? If yes to this then she might just be a spitter. Some babies spit and others poo every two hours like my DS.

I’ve had to cut all dairy and soya, and that seems to help, but some days the baby is sicky, although less so than before. Cutting out soya is a pain though as a lot of food has added soya (lots, if not most, shop bought bread has soya in it)

She still looks uncomfortable/in pain when she needs to poop, so I’m not sure it’s working as well as I thought it might (I’ve been dairy/soya free for 3 weeks now)

Thanks for your replies.

Yes she is gaining weight and well otherwise so I'm not worried so much about her health although she does get very upset after she's been sick that much. I suppose it could just be one of those things but I'll give it a go and see if it makes any difference, if hate it if she was uncomfortable and it was something I could help!

The thing is if you stop dairy and she has a minor intolerance that can often turn into an allergy. It’s best not to do anything without medical advice

@GrumpyHoonMain maybe if I just reduce it then, because it's making me feel sick if I have too much in one go anyway so I need to do something .. but I will bring it up with the GP and / or health visitor when I next see them 😊

It could be dairy, does it sound anything like this?

It's probably worth giving a BFing helpline a call too. Have you got the numbers?
