Worried first time mum/Coronavirus

Hi, I'm a new mum and a very paranoid one at that!

Just a few questions I was hoping you lovely people could help with:

  1. I feed my baby formula. The brand we use is no longer in stock in our local supermarkets but we do have another two weeks worth. If we can't get our usual brand is it okay to change to the other brands available? Even if it means each week my baby will be on a different brand due to what's available? Or will this make her ill?

  2. My baby is 8 weeks old today and my doctors don't do baby vaccinations until 10 weeks. Does this sound right? NHS website says 8 weeks! Also, what would happen if the doctors surgery closed due to the coronavirus? Would they still do them somehow?

Thanks in advance!

Hi! Paranoid, overly-worried first time mum here too. lol. I’m breastfeeding but I’ve been told that if you ring the helpline number on the back of your baby’s milk, the company should be able to send some out to you. Hope this works. Crazy times out there, people are ridiculous with their stockpiling! My baby is 3 weeks old and man was it hard to find any newborn nappies. None anywhere. Now though, we have a big pile due to family members picking up a pack each when they were shopping lol (this was off their own back, I wasn’t trying to buy all the nappies ha) Blush at least if she outgrows them I can just give them away to help someone else! Anyways good luck!

Hey just so you know that’s not true about ringing the number on the back of the formula they can’t help you sadly!! I wouldn’t be swapping my babies milk each week I would just go round different places to find it if I had too. I know this isn’t ideal but I’d not swap it each week. And as for the jabs I’m not 100% sure on that one! Xx

Don't worry about swapping brands, there's no evidence that this is harmful.

You can use any brand of first stage formula. Follow-on milks aren't suitable and aren't recommended by the NHS at any age.

Don't worry about the vaccines either. If baby isn't mixing with people from outside the family, and the rest of the family aren't too, they are very unlikely to get sick.

Have you been given an appointment for the vaccinations? If not, I'd contact the surgery on Monday and ask about it Smile
