Postnatal dizziness/feeling off balance

Mewbookitty · 24/02/2020 21:22

Hi all, I'm now 12 weeks postpartum and for the past four weeks I've been experiencing a constant feeling of being off balance with occasional dizziness especially when moving too quickly. I've got a lot of tension in my shoulders and neck and I keep getting pressure type feeling up the back of my head/jaw/temples/nose/forehead with some aching pain but it's not bad and comes and goes. I've had my eyes tested and checked and everything is fine, I've also had bloods done which came back clear but honestly I've been quite worried even worrying I've got a brain tumor or something! It's not as bad recently since I've tried to worry less about it however it's still there and the doctor doesn't seem concerned but it's a horrible feeling to have constantly especially when trying to enjoy bubba. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Could it purely be down to anxiety and tension?

@SallyWD was the hormones causing the vestibular migrains? Did they give you any medication to try? Xx

SallyWD · 03/02/2022 22:00

They think the migraines are hormone related too. No they didn't suggest any medication. Just gave me advice on relaxation techniques...

Wh1sperinw1nd · 11/06/2022 13:45

Hi there,

I have a similar feeling. I am wondering if it got better with time, once your hormones settled down? Would be very grateful if you.could let me know how you are doing now.

chocsaucestrawb · 24/09/2022 13:11

@Wh1sperinw1nd hi I was also wondering how OP got on, how are you feeling now? I'm feeling lightheaded and 9 weeks pp. x

chocsaucestrawb · 15/10/2022 14:59

Anyone else ???

Starrr123 · 16/10/2022 00:28

@chocsaucestrawb hi ! My dizzyness went on for a year, not sure if it was abit of long covid or pregnancy . Hope yours goes xx

Licilynn · 22/12/2022 18:27

10 weeks pp and have been having dizzy spells since birth too. It’s making me go crazy and feel so scared to live normally because it happens when I’m grocery shopping, driving, even sitting at home…

strawberrysummer19 · 01/01/2023 09:08

@Licilynn how are you feeling now ?i still have it 5m post partum. Waiting results on MRI but my GP didn't seem concerned and thinks it's all in my head I'm sure x

Mikzy · 01/01/2023 19:37

I an nearly 9 months post partum and still constantly dizzy/drowsy. Full blood count was done, balance test, ecg but everything came back normal. They think its anxiety so they are offering anti depressants but I am scared to take it due to the side effects.

Starrr123 · 02/01/2023 10:34

@Mikzy did you have your iron and ferritin checked?
i was looking at my medical history on my nhs app. Ive suffered with dizziness since and my baby is 18months! Your ferritin should be around 75 really. Anything under 50 is not good! Mine was 11, 13 and 20! And the drs said it was normal! I spoke to a new dr and he said it shouldbt be that low! Been on high iron tablets and feeling better :) x

Mikzy · 02/01/2023 12:23

My ferritin was checked and it was pretty good, it was at 111. I tried the iron tabs anyway just to see if it will make a difference but still felt the same way. Losing all my options now really, not sure what else to do other than take the antidepressants (even though been very hopeful to be better without it). Worried that it might affect my mental capacity as I am back from maternity leave next month.

Starrr123 · 02/01/2023 19:35

@Mikzy its just trial and error! Of trying things. Acupuncture is meant to help.
maybe give them a go and see how
u go? People awwys makes me think its all in my head when its not cx

Mikzy · 02/01/2023 20:32

@Starrr123 thats what i feel like, dont think its just in my head because there is no known trigger coz its literally constant. Just have to gain the strength for this anti depressants, i guess i will never know until i try. Thank you for your tips, appreciate it!

Starrr123 · 02/01/2023 22:33

@Mikzy definitely give them a go! Ive always been very scared. But also will be my next thing to try xx

strawberrysummer19 · 03/01/2023 07:21

@Starrr123 @Mikzy it's almost nice to know we are not alone in all of this!

I'm also wondering to try antidepressants but again have been trying to use as a last resort
Think @Starrr123 we've spoken before 👋

It's so debilitating I find. For me it gets bad at different points but still there constantly

Like a dull ache/trouble focusing/lightheaded
Bloody horrible feeling!

It affects everything doenst it. I'm returning
To work after a year so that July for me and I just hope it goes so I can focus on work because at the moment I wouldn't be able to 😩

I think after my MRI I will feel better knowing is not a brain tumour or something but my body has been through so much trauma and I have felt stressed so maybe I do need AD 😬

I just want it to go away x

Starrr123 · 03/01/2023 09:39

@strawberrysummer19 oo have we 😃 well we meet again lol!

its horrible! It makes me very anxious! Because drs say its anxiety but i say no this gives me anxiety! Ive had 3 mris and all clear!
im sure yours will also be clear :)

When im due on my period mine gets alot worse!
if i do t drink or eat much it happens, when im due on and dont wat alot i get vertigo!

xx

Mikzy · 03/01/2023 13:38

@strawberrysummer19 same! I used to love driving but i find it hard to concentrate when driving 😩 so i am scared to drive on my own or with baby without my husband. Before i can even multi task, now when my husband is talking to me and im doing something, he is literally blocked out so have to ask him to repeat what he said.

i wanted to brave it out until going back to work coz sometimes when im busy i dont notice it much even though i know its still there. But i am then worried that i wont be able to work properly specially i have to use my brain a lot at work. On top of it, it will be a new company so learning new things need to have a sharp brain.

@Starrr123 tell me about it, its the dizziness thats making me anxious and depressed! Dont think its the other way around😩

i just took a big leap and contacted my DRS about antidepressants. Fingers crossed it will work.

Starrr123 · 03/01/2023 22:47

@Mikzy well done for doing that!!! Please let me know how you get on!! And also good luck with going back to work :) xx

strawberrysummer23 · 06/01/2023 10:24

@Mikzy good luck I hope they work, please let us know

So my MRI has come back clear! What a relief ! Full blood count normal, no anemia, thyroid normal so I know for the fact they won't be investigating it any future

Still have this awful lightheaded feeling 🙄so trying some lifestyle changes to eliminate stress as I do feel stressed and anxious and find it hard to relax so I'm going to work on diet, getting out the house and relaxing more

Now are you both doing ? @Starrr123 @Mikzy

strawberrysummer23 · 06/01/2023 10:40

@Starrr123 @Mikzy I'm
Wondering if there anything we can try taking for dizziness maybe ? Does anyone know? Might be with a go

I spoke with my boss and have decided to return after one year so at least it buys me 3 more months as I was supposed to be going back by 9 months but April seems so close! Financially we can't afford it but my health seems so more more important at the moment and hubby is so supportive so I'm lucky that way

I'm doing a kit day soon to discuss hours and I'm dropping to part time so that's something aswell

Now to sort childcare ! X

Mikzy · 06/01/2023 14:17

@Starrr123 @strawberrysummer23 hey both, i am still waiting for an appointment from my GP. While waiting, I am going to try aromatherapy if that helps.

I had anxiety attack while driving yesterday in the motorway which was so scary. This dizziness is really making my anxiety worst, because i was feeling dizzy, it i couldnt concentrate and it felt like i was stuck in a spiral, i just wanted to stop in the hard shoulder. Luckily, husband was around to reassure me everythings fine. No idea what would have happened if I was on my own.

I guess this is partly anxiety or wholly, something so uncontrollable! So horrible, still hopeful that from now until GP contacts me, the dizziness will somehow disappear. Work is less than a month and really gotta get my brain/mental health straight.

It helps joining a postpartum anxiety support group in facebook though seeing that we are not alone and other people are feeling the same thing.

Cmarxo · 04/02/2023 09:40

I've had a lightheaded, drowsy, floaty feeling and something that makes me feel as though I cannot focus my eyes since having my baby. I'm now 9 months pp and it doesn't seem to be getting easier. My bloods have all come back fine, I did have pre-eclampsia but my blood pressure is back in normal range now. I have noticed it is worse around my period. I would say there is probably only a week or so in a month I don't get this feeling but it ranges in severity. I am sorry so many others are suffering with something similar but it is nice to know I'm not alone too!

cadburyluver · 13/02/2023 08:45

@Cmarxo @Mikzy @Starrr123

Morning interested to see how you all are ?

Does anyone have body aches with this?

The dizzy feeling I think is either better or I'm managing to live with it ! Still there and still horrid but the aches are horrid
Some days seem worse than ever and I feel stressed some days

I happened to read my medical notes from GP and say they queried fybommlgaria but had to Google what this was and has never heard
Anytime I've done an e consult this morning

I've read anti depressants may help so I think for me I shall be driving them a go

It's been 6 months and wanted to feel completely better by now !

Just don't feel myself - so maybe they will help as I do feel down xx

Starrr123 · 13/02/2023 09:16

@cadburyluver hello!
soo the body aches i get all the time!!!
the dizzyness gets alot worse around my period :/
i was doing ok, i was taking alot of vitamins, got the flu over x mas. Then took ages to get over, now i have covid for the 4th time so body is killing.
