Headaches after giving birth?

Hi
I had my beautiful little boy 11 days ago - ECS after a cord prolapse so spent 8 days in hospital and he was in special care. I felt great in hospital, didn't use the morphine and was out of bed the next day, ensuring I could get myself down to the unit to my baby and trying to normalise things as much as possible. Had a few very stressful days when he was pretty poorly but he turned a corner and we came home after a week.

The last three days or so I've had horrible headaches, behind my eyes mainly and when I'm reading the on screen TV guide for example my eyes go a bit fuzzy. I mentioned to the midwife yesterday (our last appt as now been discharged) and she said my BP was now at the high end of normal (never had high BP in pregnancy, only occasional low BP when dehydrated) and that if I got pain in the top or my tummy too to go straight to a&e as it could be post natal pre eclampsia. Thankfully had no tummy pains but the headaches are just not showing any signs of going away.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so how long does it normally take to go?
Thanks

I would be tempted to get yourself checked out again.

Are you drinking enough? I remember in the early days sweating lots and with breast feeding I needed to drink loads more.

Did you have an epidural? I had my baby 2 weeks ago and had a spinal headache from one which kept getting misdiagnosed because its quite rare to happen. I could only lay down as would hurt as soon as I sat up or stood up was hell.

Google spinal headache. It's from the epidural. I had it too after my CS. It's horrible, does go quite quickly though (within a couple of weeks)

@Needadviceplz @kingkuta - I didn't have a spinal, it was a general as it was an emergency one, so don't think it's that fortunately

Are you getting enough sleep? (ridiculous question I know but I get headachy on low sleep ) are you generally quite swelled up? What's the headache like? Do painkillers move it?

I had a headache that was different than a tired one, sounded like gushing in my ear, painkillers didn't touch it much, didn't like bright lights, I looked swelled and my feet.. Well I had to wear velcro beach sandals a few sizes bigger.
This started 5 days after birth, was bad at 7 days and got my hospitalised at day 10 as something ridiculous like 200 over 120 and rising which I gather is bad normally but more so post natally. I was more poorly than I realised. My midwife wouldn't let me be alone, GP wouldn't let me drive to hospital.
Pre eclampsia or post natal hypertension were thoughts..it was the latter. Happened after each birth but after first time spotted earlier but still ended up in hospital. Treatment as baby delivered already basically same for both .
I never got the tummy pain.
Can you pick up/borrow a blood pressure monitor?
I'd be inclined to see your GP

Thanks everyone, I'll make a GP appt in the morning.
I did have some swelling but that seems to have gone down. Not getting an awful lot of sleep but this feels different to a tiredness headache. Paracetamol take the edge off but it doesn't fully go away.
Thanks again

Hello OP... Did you manage to get to see GP? Hopefully all is OK

ifeeltheneedtheneedforsleep · 24/02/2020 19:29

Hi @happytoday73
I did see the GP today and thankfully BP is back to normal. She thinks it's just my system reacting after anaesthetic, painkillers, antibiotics and anticoagulants and should calm down before long. Thanks for asking x

I was anaemic after my second baby (normal blood loss but fainted in the shower after birth). I was put on iron tablets for 6 weeks and the headaches eventually went. They were awful though and my 2 year old was going through a VERY LOUD phase. Shouting MUMMMMMAAAY like a fog horn.

Hope you feel better soon.
