Cesarean Wound Opening Slightly

Hello,

WARNING: post details are a little graphic! And pictures to follow may be too much for some.

The skin along my c-section scar seems to have 'slipped' slightly in one small area, as if the skin on the top of the incision has peeled/folded up a little and opened a bit at the opposite end (this end has always looked deeper, like it's where the initial cut have gone in). I'm 3 weeks post op and the wound was perfect when I left the hospital, so it's my fault for over-doing it since! I'm planning on going to the doctors on Monday, but just wondering if theres any medical personnel or ladies that have experienced this themselves that can advise if it's ok to wait until then. I don't feel unwell or like theres any infection presently, but I do have discomfort in the area. I will include pictures to follow.

Thank you in advance 🙂

Here are some of the pictures that I was able to take. Apologies if they are a bit graphic 😩

My c section scar looked exactly like this for the first month or so.. had it checked out at the doctors, she advised it didn’t look infected and was just taking a bit longer to heal. Said to keep it clean just with water - no soaps or shower gel - and leave it uncovered when you can. It took about six weeks to completely heal over but didn’t give me any further problems. Rest up and feel better! X

Mine looked like that too. Keep it clean, I used a folded sterile dressing in the ‘fold’ to keep it dry, but I think moist wound healing is the thing now so maybe it’s best to leave it!

Whatsbrownandsticky · 22/02/2020 21:17

Mine did this this second time. If it starts to smell, hurt or leak, seek help.

A tip I learned too late is to dry the wound thoroughly with a hair dryer, I wish I'd known that one!

ChikiTIKI · 22/02/2020 21:21

I was just about to suggest hairdryer. I used the cold setting of my hairdryer to keep my episiotomy wound dry after showers, so much easier and quicker and effective than air drying (who has time for that?!). Plan to use same method on my c section scar next month.

Sorry you're going through this. I imagine it's a bit stressful and irritating. Hope it heals up ASAP.

Not relevant but who did your tattoo removal? I'm looking for someone with good results and there's not a trace of yours left.

Hairdryers are great for c section wounds. Trip to the docs for anti-bs if needed though.

Thank you all! I feel much more reassured now 😌 I was worried that end bit wouldn't close properly but it sounds as if it's completely normal then and will do in time - so that's good to hear. Using a hairdryer is a great idea, I never would have thought of it but will definitely be taking advantage of that now! 😁

@SharpieInThe - Sadly my tattoo is still there as the photos are at opposite ends of my scar, so sorry I cant help more. Wish I did know someone as I've one or two I'd like to make disappear too! 😂

Ah hope you get it all cleared up.

I need to get one big one removed but it's a tattoo over a tattoo and I'm petrified of how bad it's gonna be. Seen some minging results too. 😂

Mine opened up a wee bit too. Looked exactly like that. I was just v busy with a new baby and a 4yr old. It healed fine.

The hairdryer advice is tough because it's theoretically quite good. Sadly, hairdryers are full of crap and dust and when warm, are breeding grounds for germs. You don't want to blow them into an open wound. Just pat dry gently instead.

Had this last time around. Overdoing it. District nurse out every other day or so to check and clean it. They dressed it with an inodine dressing which was awesome for helping it to seal over again.
Get it checked asap. They should swab it for you. They did mine.
Take it easy. (I know easier said than done esp if other dc in house) no lifting anything except bubs.
No housework. Not even hanging washing.
