Reduced urge to pee after catheter

Just wondering whether anyone else has had reduced awareness of needing to pee after catheter insertion in c section? And how long did it take for the sensation to return?

Not after c section but surgery

You need to drink more water and you just need to sit on the toilet for a while and keep your muscles relaxed (hard I’m sure with a newborn)

Also try running tap to a trickle

Yes I had this. Followed a few days later by pains low down in my stomach which I thought were related to the surgery. I called triage when the pains were getting worse rather than better. Turns out I had a bladder infection and struggled not only to know I needed a wee bit to empty my bladder and had to have another catheter to wee for me for 24 hrs and go on a course of antibiotics. Keep and eye on it!

Yes I had this!!

I had a natural birth but had to have a catheter inserted right at the end after I delivered... for about a week after giving birth I would have no awareness of needing to pee but when I went to the toilet I pee'd for ages like my bladder was full!!

It does resolve itself, I thought I may have a bladder infection but it was all good.

Totally normal. Lasted about 2 weeks for me, didn't ever feel like I needed a wee. Just came back by itself. It was actually a nice feeling after needing to wee every 5 mins when pregnant haha

Hey I’m 6 months pp and still have no urge to wee.
Actually: I spoke to a specialist 3 days ago and he told me nerve damage sometimes doesn’t come back and now I’m suffering and spiralling into anxiety attacks at the thought.
I’ve searched for hours online regarding this and 99% of cases seems to come back within a few weeks and I may be one of the rare few that it doesn’t :(
How old is your baby?

Bobblethediscoduck · 25/12/2020 22:57

Did it get better?

GirlCalledJames · 25/12/2020 23:00

Yes, it came back gradually over three months. In the first week or two I went every time the baby fell asleep because I couldn’t feel it otherwise.

Bobblethediscoduck · 25/12/2020 23:44

Is it like normal now? I hope this happens for me x.

Nanasplit · 25/12/2020 23:51

I had this after a caesarian. Lasted about 3 to 4 weeks but improved only really gradually. Spoke to a womans health physio and she suggested squatting down and weeing into a jug. Something about that position seemed to help. Not very dignified though!

GirlCalledJames · 26/12/2020 21:13

Yes, completely normal about 3 months postpartum.

Bobblethediscoduck · 26/12/2020 23:00

Thank you :) i hope this happens for me

Bobblethediscoduck · 04/05/2021 23:10

Any updates welshgirl

Same, mine hasn’t returned, so I just routinely use the toilet to above any problems
