PND without medication

Hey,
My son is 14 weeks old and I was diagnosed with PND at my 6 week check up. I was put on to sertraline, which I took for about 10 days or so before stopping as it was playing havoc with my heart rate, causing my heart to race then suddenly drop and I'd pass out (so much fun)
Recently I was back seeing the doctor and she's referred me for CBT but we're both wary of me trying more medication just now.

Basically I'm wondering if anyone else has had PND and not taken medication, and what's their experience of it. How long did it take to feel better, etc. I'm really struggling here 😞

Thanks x

I have recently been told I have PND and I will not be having medication. While i cannot answer your question in just wanted you to know you're not alone.

I was unmedicated for 3 months then had sertraline for a year before experiencing the same heart issues as you had. I then switched to Citalopram which has been amazing.

I guess just be careful if you do remain unmedicated and maybe try a different one.

I was diagnosed with PND and PNA at 4 months pp. I'd probably had it from around 3 weeks pp and it steadily got worse. I had sertraline for 6 weeks but it started to make me manic so I was advised to stop. I had CBT but didnt get on with it. My PND related to birth trauma to I had specialist birth trauma counselling and attend a support group which really helps. DD is 17 months and although I still have a few symptoms things are better. I also found that pregnancy and birth highlighted other issues in my life (narc MIL, idiot FIL, unsupportive partner, controlling parents, work pressure etc) so I set about changing my life circumstances and that's had the biggest impact.
