Numbness (perhaps TMI)

Hello everyone
After being induced on Wednesday I have my beautiful baby boy. By all accounts I had an excellent birth, only 3 stitches and little blood loss.
But I feel absolutely shell shocked in the aftermath. I was on the ward for 2 nights after baby arrived and was laying on my back a lot.
I had a spinal and an epidural, which worked wonderfully at the time, but my back still feels not right. Not quite numb but not all the sensation is back.
And then the reason for this thread.
I cannot feel my bum hole.
I'm not incontinent because its still closed and I am passing wind normally, but I cannot feel it and I cant really tell if/when I need to poo. Everyone says how scary the first poop is after childbirth but I had no sensation of it other than I could feel it coming and had to go to the loo. I have only been once since the baby came.

I have spoken to my midwife who basically seemed unconcerned and said we would discuss it on monday if it is still numb. I cant find anything online about other people not being able to feel their bum!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi OP

Congrats on your baby boy & aside from this I hope you are okay!

It's still early days so will probably still feel sore or numb. I was induced, had an epidural and like you didn't move (2 days in my case but I was very poorly!) I don't recall feeling how you did in that particular area however, I did have a numb feeling in my legs - the only way I can describe it as if they weren't mine if that makes sense? I felt like I'd been in a car crash or something! Again I can't remember how long I felt like that but it definitely lasted till I left hospital (I was in 5 days)

If you mentioned it your midwife and she doesn't seemed concerned - I wouldn't worry. I know that's easy to say but if you still feel like this in a few days I'd either speak to her again or make a GP appointment to put your mind at ease.

That’s normal. It took a few days for the numbness from my epidural to go.
