When did you drive after your section?

Hi

Im 2 weeks post-surgery. I’m amazed at how quickly I’ve recovered from this section (don’t mean to sound like a knob). I’ve been on walks, doing washing etc, pretty much back to normal.

I feel like I could drive short distances. I’m sick of paying for taxis and miss my independence.

My insurance company says if I feel ok then I’m insured.

When did you drive again?

Ten days, butv felt I was ready after a week.

Ceara · 02/01/2020 07:15

4 weeks. Midwife and GP said the key is whether you would hesitate to do an emergency stop. If you wince or flinch mentally, or think for a moment that your foot might possibly hesitate over the brake pedal even for a split second - don't drive yet. I had an easy recovery too, and felt OK to drive at 2-3 weeks but left it another week to be really sure.

BikeRunSki · 02/01/2020 07:18

First CS - 4 weeks
Second CS - 9 weeks

Biscuitsandteaplease · 02/01/2020 07:22

2 weeks for me, I went for a practice drive with DH first to check emergency stops but it was honestly fine

Sparklybaublefest · 02/01/2020 07:24

I thought it was 6 weeks

Sparklybaublefest · 02/01/2020 07:24

but if you have checked with your insurance company then you should be ok

BonnieSeptember · 02/01/2020 07:26

7 weeks for me, I couldn't even stand up straight after 2 😁

cultkid · 02/01/2020 07:27

I was 2 weeks post section
Didn't call the insurer as I read my policy and it didn't stipulate 6 weeks after a c section it said something about adequate recovery time from c section

cultkid · 02/01/2020 07:28

Sorry should say adequate recovery from surgery

TokyoSushi · 02/01/2020 07:28

10 days, I called my insurance company and they weren't even remotely interested!

MakeLemonade · 02/01/2020 07:29

10 days - also felt fine and able to after a week.

My midwife said her concern was largely about carrying heavy car seats as this is where they see the most issues from people driving too soon/reopening wounds or pulling stitches - emergency stop situations are obvs pretty rare and instinct kicks in! So I just made sure I kept seat in the car and carried baby to and from car.

fitflopqueen · 02/01/2020 07:29

2 weeks and that was after 2nd CS

Mesacasa · 02/01/2020 07:36

3 weeks. If you feel good do it, if the street is quiet where you live or whatever practice an emergency stop to be sure before you set off

Slavetominidictator · 02/01/2020 07:39

One week - felt ok to do so. But I had elective sections, from which the recovery seems to be a lot easier than emergency ones where you've laboured first.

codenameduchess · 02/01/2020 07:39

3 weeks, but only because I didn't need to for the first 2 weeks. Felt able to after a week or so.

I was surprised that the only advice from the midwife was ' if you feel ok go for it' and my insurance said I was covered as long as I felt i was ok as I'd always thought it was 6 weeks. I've just hit 6 weeks now and I'd have gone crazy not driving all this time!

scrivette · 02/01/2020 07:50

8 weeks (emergency section). I didn't feel ready to carry the car seat and twist around getting my other children strapped into their seats.

BigRedBoat · 02/01/2020 07:51

3 weeks, I couldn't lift the car seat in and out but I could lift the baby in and out of the seat, lifting the pushchair was hard work though!

Mumof1andacat · 02/01/2020 08:00

When u feel ready but you must check with your insurance company to see what hey have in the policy. It can very and driving too soon might mean you wont be covered

user1487194234 · 02/01/2020 09:44

Hospital said 6 weeks and I stuck to that
I actually enjoyed the enforced 'down time'

userabcname · 02/01/2020 09:51

I waited 6 weeks but I had an infection which made my stomach feel a bit tender and I was actually more concerned about toddler ds kicking me while I put him in his car seat than anything else.

Pinkflipflop85 · 02/01/2020 10:11

4 weeks after my first (crash section and had a rough recovery).

2 weeks after my second (slightly calmer emergency section).

I called the insurance company with my first and they didn't have a clue what I was even talking about. The lady on the phone was really confused as to why I was asking when I could drive again!

Clangus00 · 02/01/2020 10:18

3 weeks. My DD was in the NICU and I felt I was being a burden on others driving me there & back every day (although I really wasn’t).

Gettingonabitnow · 02/01/2020 17:27

Thanks ladies
