I’m 6 months PP and feel like my body is broken. Even after a rest over Christmas, I can’t get away from the backache, bulging tummy and sloping shoulders. Everything aches. I usually get my exercise from walking, but I think this needs some proper exercise. I have access to a gym, but not a great deal of exercise knowledge and no access to classes/personal trainer. The GP has signed me off for exercise. Where are the best places online to mug up on what to do please? I do know to take it gently, but would like to set off in the right direction. Thank you I’m advance! 😊

I would really recommend finding a postnatal pilates class. It'll restore your core, strengthen your glutes, and fix your aches.

Athleanxx on You Tube has some great body weight exercises for post partum - mostly that you could do at home.

A good Pilates teacher is worth their weight in gold. You really need someone to tell you when you’re doing it properly. It’s so easy to accidentally strain your back and pelvis, especially if your core is weak. On the plus side, I’ve been going to classes for over three years now, and it’s made huge difference. It took me years before I could plank though Grin

You could also have a look at the Mutu system programme, which is online.

Glad others have said pilates too. To give it more weight, after my second I got back to exercise to the point of doing a sprint triathlon when he turned 1. Then started getting knee problems. Ended up not being able to keep up with my 4yo walking up the road. Turned out i had slipped a disc. Due to doing too much without having the core strength to support. 10 months of physio and pilates later and I'm still not where I want to be with it.

Those are all really helpful replies, thank you! I went to a postnatal physio today and have my first (v much supervised) Pilates class next week! 😊 I’m so glad to see that posters have found Pilates genuinely useful, sometimes it’s hard to know if it is.

@getmomstrong on insta is great. She's a postpartum trainer and her videos are really educational. And she had crazy kids and a dog, which I find so relatable!
