Hi,

We had our ds on wednesday and were sent home on Thursday. We were told to expect a midwife to visit our house on Friday, but noone came or got in touch. I am not really sure who to phone as I can’t find a number in the red book, and the community midwife number for the hospital doesnt pick up (is it shut on weekends?). We would really appreciate the visit as breastfeeding is quite a struggle and we are worries he might have some jaundice. Any advice very much appreciated

Maybe contact the hospital maternity unit and ask them what to do

Ring labour ward and go from there. This is terrible care. When you've got it sorted you need yo make a complaint, you and your baby could get ill. Early discharge from hospital is gone on the basis of midwife home visits.

And re breastfeeding are you struggling to get him to latch? There is s forum on here where you can get some advice. If he is too sleepy to latch or you're not getting plenty of wet nappies then forget all that though and go straight back to the maternity unit. Don't waste time ringing.

Thanks so much for the advice, we managed to get the midwife number from the maternity unit. Seems everyone is giving birth at the moment including a number of home births which took the community midwives off schedule yesterday. All arranged for today, so thanks again!
