Hi ,

Not sure if anyone has any advise , 5 days ago now my 7 week old baby appeared with a red mark on labia , yesterday I looked again and it was a lump . Today we went to a&e where we was told she had a hemangiomas
(strawberry mark). I was told this was disappear by the time she was 1 and was nothing to worry about , however reading online some people still have them to this day now they are older. I worry this will cause her problems such as urinating if it does get to big???

Can anyone else relate to this

There is a difference between something staying the same and something growing.

Have you read anything that said it grows, gets so big this can happen? I suspect not.

DS has one near his eye, the doc would only treat if it grew to block over his vision, it’s hardly grown at all! I wouldn’t worry unless it grows but easier said than done at the time I was worried it would cover his full eyelid so I do understand! although he is nearly 2 and it’s not changed in size/faded/gone.

Yes I was told today it would get bigger , if you read up on them they are known to get very big

DS did get bigger but hasn’t grown anymore since he was about 6 months, it varies child to child. It’s about 1cm by 1cm.

I only worry that it would get big for the fact it could interfere with her urinating as she is only 7 weeks and fairly big now. She has got a check up in 3 months to see if they have got bigger

Bless her! Hope it doesn’t get bigger if it’s like DS she should be fine, I only had to go back if it started to block his vision I completely understand the worry I was frantic about it taking daily pictures to see if it had changed in size day to day, it grew quite fast but then just stopped! It started off as a red pinpoint speck!

My DS had one on his left hip. He's nearly 3 and you can hardly see it now. You just need to be very careful you don't scratch it it make it bleed as it'll bleed a lot.

Brownbeltandjeans · 08/09/2019 18:47

@Bluntness100 you appear to know nothing about this so your comment is unhelpful.

OP my son has one on his face. It has grown (he is now 5 months) but only I proportion to his head growing, if that makes sense. My understanding is that given where it is they should monitor it and if they are concerned it will affect function they can give a medication to shrink it.

laurenjohnson29 · 08/09/2019 18:52

@Brownbeltandjeans

I'm hoping they will offer some kind off removal or medication to shrink it at least as I don't want it to cause troubles in the future or for her to feel insecure even tho she is perfect to me.

Just worry the wee may infect it or the nappy will make it bleed

My DD had a facial one. She's eight years old now and it's faded a lot (nearly same shade as her face now). The size hasn't changed since she was a young baby. As she's grown, it appears smaller in relation to her face.

It hasn't caused her any problems, but the position is inconvenient rather than an issue so it's a cosmetic problem. We think it may be flattening out now, but won't be looking at removal unless she asks when older.

I believe most disappear in the first few years of life.

My daughter has one at the top of her thigh, it appeared at roughly 8 weeks. It grew and got quite raised from the skin. She's 3 now and it's smaller, has faded a lot and is flush to the skin

See what the consultant says in 3 months and if your not happy perhaps seek a private specialist? They may prescribe the medication where the NHS won't. You would obviously have to speak to them about side effects etc.

DS has one on his forehead, grew quickly and to about the size of a 50p as a baby. Started to fade and shrink when he was about 6. He's 13 and you wouldn't really notice it now, he's got a bit of baggy skin there and it's slightly pink. As it never interfered with bodily function, the dr said just wait for it to fade and it really has!

One of his baby group friends had one on her ear which did have to be treated when she was about 1 as it was growing over the entrance to her ear and would have interfered with her hearing, it shrunk and lost its colour massively after treatment.

laurenjohnson29 · 08/09/2019 19:11

They offered lazor surgery when she is 1 if it hasn't gone, however they said if it starts to cause problems with having a wee they would have to remove it earlier .

Just wanted to know wether peoples have grown very big or just stayed the same?
