Anxiety

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this...
My daughter is 8 months old and she is doing really well.
More recently and often in the evening I get bad anxiety where I worry something bad is going to happen to her. It really upsets me and I find it hard to stop thinking about all these ' worst case scenarios '
Like ' what if this happens' or what if that happens'
Is this normal? I love her so much and the thought of anything happening to her just kills me!

Sorry to hear. Have you thought about getting a short course of counselling? Often saying these things out loud to a neutral, kind person can help enormously.

Some anxiety is completely normal but if it is taking over your thoughts on a regular basis it sounds like it is out of control.

Have you spoken to a gp about it? Dp had sever anxiety. A small dose of sertraline and some good, private cbt has helped him enormously.

He also highly recommends a guy on YouTube called the anxiety guy and listens to him on a daily basis.

Hi! My daughter is 3 yrs old but I go through stages having thoughts like this.. I'm sure it's normal to some extent but definitely speak to a professional, even take prescribed meds if u feel you need it. Nothing wrong with that!

I can relate to this so I'm following - I'm getting slowly better, but when ds was newborn I used to try and think of every possible terrible thing that could happen, and ways I could mitigate the risks. And it felt that if I thought of something happening, it would be less terrible because I have thought about it so it wouldn't as a complete shock. I very nearly drove myself insane. I found mindfulness and hypnotherapy helpful for anxiety. It's a long battle but you can get through it.

I have a 5year old and 3year old and, when in a new place, I (in my head) do a risk assessment and think of all of the worst case scenarios. I'm sure it's not healthy but, like you OP, I can't bare the thought of anything bad happening to my children. I've just realised that isn't remotely helpful so I'll tag on to your thread and listen to advice given from our fellow MNers.

I had this after baby number 2. I saw the GP and had some CBT. It was a very quick referral and after 1 face to face meeting we continued over the phone which was easier. It really helped.

Thank you everyone.
I have made an online appointment with my GP so I will let you know what happens.
I feel it's something that started slowly but now
It is getting more frequent. I know as parents we will always worry ect but it is starting to affect my sleep and I worry it will get worse. Xx

So glad you booked an appt. Anxiety is so horrible but it is curable and you don't have to live with it.
Whilst waiting for the appt, have you tried the Headspace app? I was sceptical but it has definitely helped me particularly with sleeping (I used to wake up in the night and worry lots, now I do Headspace and get back to sleep much quicker)
