Concerned about EMCS healing

So I haven't a MW to phone as the 1 to 1 Midwife service closed down (you may have seen it on the BBC...) But I have dropped a text to my bereavement MW (yes, sadly my son died aged 5 days old...)

So turning to MN in the meantime as she is currently on holiday.

I had an EMCS 5 weeks ago and started my 1st postpartum period 2 days ago. Since my period started I've been experiencing pain around my scar area but I've put it down to period cramps just making it tender.

This evening though I feel unable to really do anything other than sit down and try to relax as it really is too painful now.

The scar and the right half above the scar by 2 inches is so tender, swollen and hot.

I got my DH to have a look and I didn't even have to tell him what I could see wasn't right, he spotted that my previously nicely healing scar area was now noticeably swollen.

Do I attempt to make a doctor's appointment tomorrow? Or attempt to see a MW at the hospital, surely they have to take me on if the other service has closed?

Please call 111 - sounds like you have an infection. This can be very serious after a surgery. I’m so sorry for your loss and that you’re now having to deal with this as well. If you have a high temperature or feel very unwell then I’d to go A&E

Make a GP appt for tomorrow. I had an infection in my scar and needed antibiotics.

Rarfy · 04/08/2019 21:11

Hi @TwittleBee firstly I am so sorry for your loss. That is completely heartbreaking. I hope you have lots of love and support around you.

Secondly does the hospital you delivered in have a maternity assessment unit? It is provably the last place you will want to go but please at least call them. They will be able to advise.

I had lots of infections in my csection wound. The quicker you get it seen to the better.

Sending lots of love at what must be a devastating time.

FadedRed · 04/08/2019 21:17

Sounds like a wound infection, so needs checking by Dr or Nurse.
You could ring 111 for advice and possibly be seen at the OOH service tonight, or GP/Practice nurse first thing tomorrow. You will need antibiotics and the would checking/dressing, but doesn’t have to be by a MW.
If you have any other symptoms that might indicate a more generalised sepsis, then go to A&E.

So sorry for you loss, this must feel like the very last thing you need to be dealing with right now.

TwittleBee · 04/08/2019 21:26

Thank you all. I'll be sure to ring the GP first thing tomorrow morning and hope they can see me.

So surprised you can still get an infection this far after the surgery! Especially at how clean, neat and healed the scar looks. I suppose it's the inside?

Did you get seen @twittleBee?
How are you?

TwittleBee · 08/08/2019 11:58

Hi, yes I did. Turns out I'm not healing that great. Looks good on outside but I've been over doing it for my insides. Strictly been told to rest and to stop picking up my 2 year old. Certainly no driving yet either.
