C Section Incision

Hello,

Hoping some of you ladies might be able to help me.

I had an emergency c section last Thursday and feel like I'm recovering well. I am just unsure what is normal in terms of the actual incision.

My midwife took out my stitch yesterday and it was a bit sore and one section was a little weepy. She wasn't overly concerned but told me to keep an eye on it.

So I am wondering, what is normal with an incision at this point?

I've been given little advise but have been letting warm water run over mine and have started gently dabbing it with a warm wet cloth. It seems to be looking better since I started cleaning it for sure!

Is a little bleeding normal at this stage?

Mine didn't bleed after they took the dressing off, certainly not by the time the stitch came out. But maybe I was lucky, so that doesn't necessarily mean it's anything to worry about.

It's important to make sure it's completely dry after washing and let air get to it. If possible try to sit with it out for a while after a shower as putting clothes over it straight away might trap some moisture.

Mine did bleed a little after the stitch came out, went to the doctors and they told me to put sudocream on it and a wound pad, and change it every couple of days and it healed within a week.

When washing don't use soap on the area as they told me this will irritate the area, I bought a shower gel with no soaps or dyes and used that over my scar and still do now 3 months on.

Mine didn’t bleed either, but that doesn’t mean it’s not normal. I don’t know. Maybe ask the midwife when you see her? I’m
assuming you’ve not yet been discharged.

I've booked in to see a doctor about it tomorrow as it's been quite sore today. Best to be safe than sorry

Both of my wounds took a few weeks to fully stop weeping. I had swabs taken to check for infection and both times they were clear. I have quite an overhang which I think made it slower for it all to heal

I had dissolvable stitches but you'll definitely know if something is off. I had a nasty infection and mine was red and tight and swollen all around the incision

I had dissolvable stitches but no bleeding or weeping. It looked healed within 10 days or so (although I didn't do anything reckless to test this!)

I think you're doing the right thing getting it checked

I had dissolvable stitches and no weeping.
The hospital recommended Octenisan Wash which we bought from Amazon. Dont put the shower head directly onto the cut, i put the wash onto my belly and let it run down over the cut and then the same to wash off.
I then dab try with a clean towel. Try to let air get to it for as long as you can

(All of this recommended to me by hospital)

Thanks for your replies. I went today and they said it did look a bit angry and sticky but... they don't think it's infected.

Told me to keep on keeping it clean and dry and just give it time. They have taken swabs just incase.
