Bottle feeding help

I feel so useless having to write this but I really need some help.

DC3 is nearly three weeks old and is solely bottle fed, like our previous two DC. However I just don’t feel like I know what I’m doing this time around. DC is feeding every two hours in the night, anywhere from between 2oz to almost 4oz and during the day slightly longer between feeds.

Where am I going wrong? Do we need to try a hungry baby formula? Any suggestions or advice is very welcome. I’m struggling.

Feeding every 2/3 hours is pretty normal at this age tbh. I know everyone says ff babies sleep more but it's not always the case.

Can your partner or anyone take over a couple of feeds if the lack of sleep is getting to you? Maybe they could do the last one before bed so you can get an early night? And the one around 7 so you can have a lay in?

@icclemunchy thank you so much for replying.

I am so fortunate that me and DH are splitting the night feeds so although I am a little sleep deprived, it could be way worse. I’m struggling more with the fact I feel like I have done something wrong / don’t know DC3 because the other two were going longer and dare I say it, had more of a routine going on.

Hi Op, congratulations! That sounds really tough, I was combination feeding ds at that stage and he used to be quite unsettled and take small amounts waking frequently.

I do remember we were using cow and gate formula and he just wouldn’t settle for us at all. Changed to aptamil and it changed everything. He started sleeping longer almost immediately

Please don’t use hungry baby formula. It’s very difficult for babies to digest and kind of weighs their little tummy down. It’s really not good for them

Oh and as pp said, the frequency you’re feeding is pretty normal at this stage! I hope it gets better soon though. You must be exhausted. I hope your Dh is doing his bit.Flowers

Bless you its deff not something you're doing wrong. I think sometimes we look back on the newborn stage with slightly rose tinted glasses too. I remember being sure my eldest never woke in the night after 6weeks old. Facebook memories tells me she was awake a lot 🙈

They all get there in the end

managedmis · 28/05/2019 01:25

Sounds about normal I'd say. Have you tried increasing the amount?

Maybe adjust his routine to suit your current sleep schedule more? : I. E. Bed for him at 8 pm, (you go to bed at this time too), DH feeds him at 10, you get up for the next feed at 12 midnight? Etc etc.

He's only super tiny still.

Congratulations BTW Grin

Thank you all; it’s amazing how harder things feel in the night when you’re really tired.

We have a prep machine so the minimum to make is 4oz, so each bottle is that amount but she generally is taking 2oz. She just won’t take more.

I’ve had a bit of a cry this morning, I just don’t feel like I know what I’m doing this time around, which I know is silly because I have had two babies before. Maybe it is those rose tinted glasses @icclemunchy 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m not sure at what stage we would switch milk to another brand if we were going to do it.

Hi, my baby is 11 days old. He is taking sma, every 3 hours sometimes he will take it every 2 hours and act like hes starving and then take the tiniest amount! on average hes taking between 2 and 4oz. I think this is pretty normal for this stage. My previous two where horrific to feed wouldn't keep any milk down fed constantly and had really bad reflux so I feel it's going smoother this time. Hopefully over time your bubba will go a bit longer, but I think you sound like you are feeding perfectly try not to worry xx
