How to get out of bed after c section?

Hi everyone

I had a emergency c-section 12 days ago and getting out of bed for the past 12 days has been okay, I can get out of bed as the hospital beds are quite high off the ground so I found a way to sort of drop my legs forward and not pull any muscles whilst doing so.

I’m going home this evening and I have a very low bed, I’m really really really worried how I am going to get out bed without hurting myself! I feel I’m going to need to move myself off the bed with different muscles so I’ll really hurt myself.

Has anyone got any tips on how to get out of a really low bed post c-section without pulling anything?

Thanks!

I rolled over towards the edge, brought my knees up, pushed myself to sitting with arms, then used arms and legs to stand, so not using stomach muscles.

Having said that, I could move more or less normally (just slowly!) at 12 days, are you still struggling?

After my CS I developed a really bad cough which was really painful on the wound. The advice I had was to rollup a bath towel into a hard cylinder then sort of clamp it to my abdomen/bend over it slightly. Could something like that help?

If you can use your arms to help that is ideal, if there's something strong enough to hold onto and help pull you up. The technique described above is what I did.

Hi everyone
Thanks for your advice!

I am not really struggling it’s just certain ways I move it really stings! The outside has completely healed it’s just the inside can be sore at times. I managed it last night and this morning and i took the advice of rolling to the edge and pulling my knees up. It took me forever but it’s the only way I didn’t hurt myself.

Thank you so much for your advice☺️

I knew someone who was on their own after a C-section and they tied a dressing gown belt to the end of the bed and pulled themselves up with it.
I did the rolling thing mentioned above. Dont overdo it, I felt fine after 2 weeks and decided I could manage a nice walk, ended up crying in agony and getting a taxi home after a mile!

Ask to see a physio and they will show you. I can remember clearly but I used my legs to shuffle myself up to sitting and kind of rolled out. Ultimately you will need to use some stomach muscles but using them is what will help them heal.

12 days is a long time to be in after a c section - did you have complications?
