Hair loss after having a baby

Hey, since having my DS a couple of months ago, my hair has started to fall out quite a bit - has this happened to anyone and does anyone have any advice or tips to stop it? I’m breastfeeding too!
Many thanks :)

Totally normal - your hair tends to thicken during pregnancy (and fall out less). Sadly, this is just returning to your normal hair!

I had this too. Noticed it at the front along my hairline. It did grow back. However I’m now peri-menopausal and it’s happened again in the same place. Blasted hormones!

Yup very normal. Your body’s held onto your hair for 9 months and now you lose 9m worth as well as the normal amount.

Urgh i had forgotten how sucky this was. DS is 15 weeks & mine is coming out in droves. I swear it is worse than having a shedding animal!! Just another reminder of the joy that is growing a baby 😂

I had it quite badly. Just as it was growing back to normal (I had loads of baby hairs all around the front that stuck out!) I got pregnant again! This time my hair doesn't feel to have thickened as much so I'm hoping that will mean less hair loss after baby is here...

Yes... It's totally normal. As above. Hormone levels returning to normal.

I have long, almost black thick hair. Pretty soon after I had DS, it started falling out... It was enough to provide a full wig every time I washed my hair. Awful.

I lost loads of hair, and now I have fluffy short bits everywhere. I mentioned it to the doctor while I was in there for something else and she did a blood test just to see, it turned out I had post partum thyroiditis (overactive thyroid) which was causing the hair loss. So if you're worried, consider seeing your doctor for a blood test.

Hi OP

I really sympathise!
With DC1 mine all started falling out around the 3 month mark and even though I knew it was 'normal' it felt so awful & depressing when it happened.

DC2 is now coming up to 9 weeks and I'm dreading what's to come.

Does anyone have any tips/advice for supplements I can take to help reduce the hair loss?

Pissedoffdotcom · 10/10/2018 22:03

I have just spent twenty minutes brushing my hair with a metal nit comb...i have to admit the experience was much akin to grooming a long haired dog. I am tempted to buy a furminator tbh. I've started taking 'biotin' to help but can't say whether or not it works as yet

bananaramama · 10/10/2018 22:19

How long does this continue for? So far my hair has been falling for four months and it's still falling....

Pissedoffdotcom · 10/10/2018 22:52

According to Google it can last around 6 months 😱
