After birth bleeding... still

Just wondering..... had my little one almost 4 weeks ago.... bleeding had stopped... had the brown discharge tinge still for the last 2 weeks.... (wish that would stop so I didn't have to keep wearing pads) and now Iv noticed some more red fresh blood. I'm breastfeeding... just wondered is it normal to bleed red again after thinking I had stopped?

Happened to me at about 5 weeks, I assume it was a period. I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about unless it's very heavy.

@Spam88 only very light just didn't expect more bleeding so soon. Thank you x

Same thing happened to me at about 4 weeks. Hasn’t happened since (12 week baby now)

They say you shouldn't have periods breastfeeding but a great deal of women do sounds like it's your menstrual cycle if your sordid though I'd ask the midwife or make a gp appointment

I bled until just before my 8 week check. I had an elective c section but stopped bleeding way earlier with my other 2 DDs than this time round. I stopped after 2 weeks initially the started again but it dwindled to a Brown smudge by the end
I think every lady and post natal experience is different and also if you're really active the bleeding can be heavier and go on longer
So long as no smell or clots and you don't feel unwell it's ok x

Do you have any lower abdominal, pelvic or back pain? Have you noticed any offensive smell from the bleeding, or any greeny discharge with it? Sometimes an infection can develop in the weeks after birth which can cause fresh or prolonged bleeding (sometimes with no other symptoms at first) so I would recommend popping to your gp surgery on Monday (or if it's open tomorrow, I know some do open on Saturdays) and ask to have a low vaginal swab sent away. (if you notice these symptoms and starts to feel unwell over the weekend, phone out of hours for advice). You may need antibiotics if there is an infection there.

Sometimes periods can start very quickly after birth, although if you're breastfeeding frequently this is less likely.

It may just be a little fresh bleeding from your uterus which can sometimes happen if you've been doing too much or not resting enough. Just keep an eye on it and if it becomes heavy or you feel unwell, phone your out of hours GP.

I bled post-twin emergency section for TEN weeks. I get the whole double placental site etc, but TEN weeks? No wonder I was bloody anaemic!!

normal.

After both EBF DC I had this happen around 5 weeks. I'm not sure if it's officially a period or not at at 5 weeks on both occasions it was very light but by 9 weeks with DC1 my periods had definitely returned, DC2 is 8 weeks now and I'm feeling bloated and crampy...

I had exactly the same, it was my periods returning, I was ebf - not impressed!
