Does anyone have any experience of this?

I've recently given birth and had a lovely experience in labour. I had a second degree tear that required stitches and a nasty 'graze'. I've noticed that my vagina didn't feel quite right, I've mentioned this to my gp at my 6 week check. I have an obvious rectocele, cystocele and all the stitches have come away to leave me 'open'. The GP says I have around 1/4 of my perineum and this will need to be corrected too.

The GP said I would need surgery to repair the prolapses, and they would have to also cut away a large amount of scar tissue and restitch the perineum. She said basically it would be a reconstruction.

I'm so upset, I suffered serious sexual abuse as a child so I'm finding this difficult to process because of the emotions it's bringing up from that. Although a different type of trauma I'm struggling with the after effects.

Does anyone have any experience so I know what to expect surgery wise and recovery?

TIA

I have had the same surgery , the surgeons and theatre staff were absolutely wonderful so reassuring , i hadnt ever been operated on and didnt like the feeling of the spinal block they asked if i wanted to be sedated or to remain awake and i chose to be sedated , they were really lovely and a lady stayed with me whilst i was in recovery giving me sips of water , making me comfortable and explaining the op and aftercare i then went up to the ward and once the feeling came back in my legs a nurse helped me out of bed and put my own nightdress on , once i was able to walk properly they took the catheter out and i stayed overnight to make sure weeing and pooing was ok , they do this op all the time so its just a normal day for them but do explain your anxieties to the surgeon and they will be able to put your mind at rest

Sorry only just noticed a reply , i was told recovery would be 8-12 weeks , i was able to do normal day to day stuff no heavy lifting and sweilling and soreness had gone down after about a week but i would say it took the full 12 weeks before i felt normal down there again just the odd twinges if i did too much and aching when sitting on hard chairs
