Fenton’s procedure

Has anybody had a Fenton’s procedure & can explain to me if it was worth it?

Had 3rd degrees tesr & episiotomy 5 months ago. Recovery was terribly painful & long bit have finally got to a place where it isn’t too bad daily.

The only issue I have is with sex. Every time we attempt it splits a little at the bottom of my vaginal entrance an think it due to a web of excess skin which blocks the entrance a little. Have booked GP appointment so going to see what they think but by sounds of it Fenton’s procure might be what I require.

I had the same problem, although a 2nd degree tear so maybe not as bad. I had a gynecologist appointment and she told me to use the 2%medicated vagisil cream as it's numbing. I used it inside and out every time we had sex for 6 weeks and I can now have sex with just lube and 8 months pp.

OP that sounds very similar to my experience. I tore and had an episiotomy and had some problems afterwards with healing (stitches came away etc etc). When it finally healed I was left with a weird piece of skin that covered about half of the entrance to my vagina. It wasn't painful day to day (once it had healed) but it make sex impossible as it was excruciatingly painful. I finally went to my GP after about 7 or 8 months and I was referred for a Fenton's procedure. It was a short operation and I was home the same day. I was quite unlucky as I got an infection afterwards which slowed healing down but once that was sorted it healed up amazingly. The skin bridge is gone and it has made an enormous difference as sex is no longer painful. I would definitely recommend going to see your GP and I would have the operation again in a heartbeat. I was feeling really quite down about the effect that the episiotomy in particular had had on me and it was a huge relief after the operation that once everything had healed that I felt normal again. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the information. Weirdly it doesn’t make sex painful for me at the entrance. Sex is still painful deeper but the entrance is fine. But it does make it all very tight an obv the splitting of the skin is less than ideal. An that is then sore the next day. But whilst dtd no issues with pain at entrance.

I’ll see what the doctor thinks. They may have other things for me to try before this.

I've had a Fenton's. A year after dd was born so you can imagine how horrible things were up to that point.
It made a positive difference.

It sounds like the Fenton’s procedure might help but meanwhile have you tried massaging the scar/skin with unscented carrier oil/bio oil? Obviously won’t remove your extra skin but it really did seem to make me episiotomy scar more stretchy and flexible so could be worth a go while you wait.
