Tens machine on engorged breasts??

Has anyone used a tens machine to relieve engorged breasts?? My breasts have been engorged for 4 days now and the pain and discomfort is unbearable so I need something to give me even slight relief! 😭

Cool shower?
I think a tens machine might make things worse.
Is there a reason for the engorgement?

domesticslattern · 20/05/2018 17:24

God I remember this. I took ibuprofen and paracetamol. Ostensibly for stitches but really helped with the engorged painful breasts (totally normal at 4 days postpartum).
Also recommend cool flannels in the bath, and a cabbage leaf in the bra (really).

I had started to breast feed while in hospital but after a day it was too painful so changed to bottles but my milk still came in on day 3 and is yet to start easing 😕

Cabbage leaves were a god send to me

Warm shower will be better than a cool one. Lots of massage and warm flannels.

Another vote for Savoy cabbage. Keep it in the fridge, change regularly. Absolutely amazing.

Cabbage leaves were a god send for me. I put the cabbage in the fridge so it was nice and cold

God I winced just reading the thread title! Nooo, don't stick TENS pads on your boobs!

Warm baths, massaging them gently in the warm water, then cool flannels afterwards, anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen and cabbage leaves in your bra.

Surely TENS (aside from being agonising) would stimulate your boobs to make even more milk?

Feed your baby? The best way to relieve your breasts!

BishopBrennansArse · 20/05/2018 19:00

Ouch. No.

Savoy cabbage leaves in your bra overnight.

TheTroutofNoCraic · 20/05/2018 19:03

BIWI or prolong the agony if OP has chosen to FF.

Did the midwives give you any support at all? Only you said you stopped because it hurt so sounds like you intended to feed. It really shouldn't hurt, but post natal help with breastfeeding is hard to find.

Have a look at some of the methods for relieving mastitis.

When I stopped feeding at 8 weeks, and I'd only been pumping up till then, I just tailed off until a week or so later when I stopped all together.

It's a balance between relieving pressure and not stimulating the tissue.

Btw, if you wanted to feed, pop over to infant feeding and people will sign post you to support to get it sorted. (Dc#2 had tongue tie, it was agony until it was cut)

No no and no

Cabbage leaves. Really cold. Perfect.

Highhorse1981 · 20/05/2018 19:10

Ignore BIWI

Highhorse1981 · 20/05/2018 19:10

No point feeding if baby isn’t hungry.

Cabbage leaves OP, really
