I'm seven days postpartum and am feeling really ill, diarrhoea, nausea, extreme dizziness and stomach pain, I'm not sure if this is normal or not, I am on a lot of medication and am on iron tablets so I'm not too sure if I should be concerned but my head is constantly spinning :(

Not normal - does anyone else in your household have a virus? If not, then speak with your midwife asap. Hope you feel better soon, and congratulations Flowers

Congratulations on your new baby! Your symptoms are not normal for the postnatal period and you should be checked out by your GP. Hope you're feeling better soon x

Harebellmeadow · 09/05/2018 15:50

Please speak to your midwife or doctor to rule out blood poisoning.

RatherBeRiding · 09/05/2018 15:51

Not at all normal - could it be an infection? You need to see your GP asap.

And congratulations!

toastandmarmiterocks · 09/05/2018 15:57

Call your midwife. Are you bleeding still? Is it heavy? Sounds like you might have an infection. Hope you feel better soon.

umberellaonesie · 09/05/2018 16:03

Go to maternity assessment or accident and emergency now a d make sure and tell them you are a new mum

maymai · 09/05/2018 16:06

Not normal, I second what precious poster has said and wonder if it's an infection, placenta left behind or something. Please ring midwife or GP ASAP.

WhatisaNarwhal · 09/05/2018 16:07

Not normal and warrants a visit to the maternity ward or a&e asap. Pref maternity as you’ll probably want to take baby, and a&e not ideal with such a small baby (germs etc.) if you DO end up in a&e, tell them you’re a) 7 days postpartum and b) have a newborn. They should put you in a cubicle/side room. If they don’t, even if you’re not, tell them you’re BFing and need privacy.

eurochick · 09/05/2018 16:10

Not normal. Please seek medical attention.

theconstantinoplegardener · 09/05/2018 16:15

Hi OP. With these symptoms, you need to rule out sepsis, and fast. Go to A&E straight away - take baby with you if there's no-one to leave her with, don't wait. As you are dizzy, your blood pressure may be low so call an ambulance rather than drive yourself. Paramedics can start treatment immediately. Hope everything is OK but please call 999 for ambulance NOW.

Harebellmeadow · 09/05/2018 17:49

You ok OP? Hope there is someone with you or in worst case you have called an ambulance. I know it’s a pain, I avoid hospitals like the plague, but for blood infections there is no other way. Hope you have sought help.

WhatisaNarwhal · 10/05/2018 11:43

Thinking of you OP- hope you’re okay

theconstantinoplegardener · 11/05/2018 07:39

Hope you got to the hospital, OP, and are starting to feel better. Flowers
