Coldsore panic with newborn!

My dd is 4 weeks old and thriving, I'm breastfeeding and she's putting on plenty of weight and nappies are regular, wet and dirty. Tonight my dh was cuddling and kissing her on the face (cheeks and head, not lips) and less than an hour later he asked where the Zovirax is as he's getting the coldsore tingle. I went a bit crazy at him saying he shouldn't have kissed her if he could feel a coldsore but obviously he wouldn't have if he had felt it sooner but he just didn't. I've never had a coldsore in my life so don't think I'd have any antibodies to give her even though I'm exclusively breastfeeding.
I'm now absolutely terrified for my dd! I've googled herpes symptoms but it's late at night now so she's floppy, sleepy and a little grunty anyway as she always is this time of night. I'm too scared to sleep!! Should I ring someone? I'm a first time mum, sleep deprived and paranoid anyway but I'm really scared of this virus. Any advice would be appreciated xx

Being breastfed will help her. Ring 111 if you're worried:)

We had a similar scare with my DD at the same age. It is more if he missed lips or near the eyes. Breastfeeding is a great defence against most things. Keep an eye on her but from what my midwife told me at the time it is extremely rare for it to be passed on and is not a regular occurrence. Hope that helps OP sound like your little one has a very caring mum and that your doing a brilliant job

Thank you @Motherwell91 it's so hard not to panic about everything. I just love her so much I'm absolutely terrified all the time. She seemed fine since. No signs or symptoms or changes. He put cream straight on the sore bit and it had gone by the morning so not even sure it was a coldsore 🙈 this mummy business makes you crazy lol I'd rather be over concerned than not though!!xx

Sounds completely normal for a first time mum. The worry never ends but defintly becomes less. I think you would have seen some signs by now so i would say all clear. They really do make you go a bit crazy especially in the early days. But all very worth it x

The same happened with us. My beautiful dd is now 13 , and immune to hsv because of living with a carrier, so we are told.
