What happens after birth?

My little boy was conceived in the UK but was born in China. A midwife visited concerned about what they thought may of been a Uk homebirth! I explained the situation. My son now 4 months will come to the UK February, he’s had two lots of injections but no other checks, what’s the procedure in the Uk post birth?

Well I'd get in touch with the local health visitors who will provide you with a red book.

Make sure you have all records of vaccinations given in China (this will have to include the drug manufacturer's details). And of course, delivery notes. This goes without saying.

Your surgery should have a weekly baby clinic for weigh-ins and advice from the health visitor. If your surgery doesn't offer one, they'll guide you towards your local baby clinic.

Congratulations!

You’ll register him with the doctors syrgery and they’ll organise a health visitor. You’ll receive appointments telling you when to bring him in for injections etc.

Right, good thank you. He’s had certain injections which we have a record of, we also have birth notes. In china that’s it nothing more no checks or inspections!

I'll jump in and say that it may be on you to remember to book the appointments. It depends on the surgery. Mine never sends out appointments or reminders to vaccinate. I so wish they did! My previous surgery did do this and it was such a help because my memory is dreadful. But once you ring to book
an appointment, you'll likely get a text reminder.

The vaccination schedule will be inside the red book and online (NHS). So this will give you an idea as to when to book in with your surgery's nurse.

I highly recommend going to the NHS choices website for information on child development, vaccination schedules and advice, baby clinics, etc.
