Achy Episiotomy Area

Hello.

I'm 2.5 weeks PP. DD was delivered by forceps after a long pushing stage (she got stuck with cord round her)

For a week or so it ached every time I walked, around my cut area. It's calmed down a lot but if I'm standing too long, or walking more than 5 minutes my butt cheek, scar area etc really ache and almost feel tight. Heat on the area while resting helps it calm down.

Scared myself by googling and I'm now worried about prolapse. Stupid, I know.

Question is has anyone had this and found it to be "normal healing" pains?

Yep, I ached for a couple of weeks and even a month or two after had twinges if I overdid it. I didn't have forceps, just an episiotomy but I imagine there'd be bruising etc that needs to go down as well as the whole area having taken a bit of a battering.

If you're concerned ask the midwife/doctor to take a look but hopefully you'll see an improvement over the next few weeks.

That doesn't sound like prolapse, just healing. It's only 2.5 weeks, I had a bad year and had this for a couple of months. Salt baths are supposed to help, but you need to be careful about walking or you will slow healing.

I intend to talk to them at my next appointment but don't want to go rushing up for a extra appointment if it's all sounding normal if that makes sense. I'm finding I see far too much of medical professionals at the moment when I'd rather spend the time with DD.

I guess I can take comfort from that fact it is better than the first while after birth.

My episiotomy runs towards my leg and it's that's side that aches.

I had a bad tear not year!

If it stays uncomfortable after a few months I guess you need to check if it was stitched too tightly or anything, but for now you need to give it longer to heal, even though it's frustrating.

It is sore for a while after keep getting it checked though I did as I thought the pain was so bad it must be infected or something but it was just the healing process. Hopefully you feel more comfortable soon- congrats on the new addition

Thank you.

I'll give it until my 6 week appointment (providing it doesn't get worse...) and speak to the GP then if it's not eased up.

I guess I need to take it easy. Walked nearly 4 miles two days ago with the buggy, didn't have any pain then but it's increased yesterday and today... Perhaps a delayed reaction?

I had an episotomy with forceps room very sore for about 2 weeks and then achy for a good few weeks after that. now 8 weeks pp. gp check said it's all healed well but I do still feel twinges. have been advised to massage the scar as much as I can bear to help soften the scar tissue and pelvic floor exercises too.

a 4 mile walk 2 weeks pp with stiches sounds like you're pushing it a bit. it's early days and from my experience pretty normal to feel bruised and achey still. my midwives recommended something from neals yard called hypericum /calendula to put in your bath go help with the healing. or you could get lavender oil and no more 4 mile walks for now!

Mustang27 · 27/11/2017 09:56

Get some good essential lavender oil and cypress oil and put 2/3 drops of each in a warm bath and have a soak for at least 10 mins every day it smells wonderful and helps with healing that area really well. I did this with my first and expect to have to do it very soon with my second. It was quite a bad 2nd tear very close to a 3rd my midwife was amazed at how well I'd healed.

I didn't mean to walk 4 miles, just kinda clocked it up around a Christmas market.

I felt completely healed before the walk which is why I walked so much without noticing (no pain!) I think my stitches are dissolved too. The area looks pretty healed too, albeit the area certainly doesn't look like it did before!

I guess it can look and feel healed but still not be?
