Sorry if this is TMI, sanitary products after having DCs

As the title says, I'm sorry if this isn't TMI but since having my two DCs I'm finding tampons really uncomfortable (I've tried different brands, sizes etc with no luck) I'm having to use sanitary towels which I don't like as they make me feel unclean. Thinking of trying a mooncup but I'm a bit apprehensive.

Has anyone else found themselves in this situation?

I do know what you mean. If you're on Facebook there's a group called the bloody waste and I found it useful for advice on menstrual cups and cloth sanitary protection.

Have you been checked for a prolapse? I had a slight one after my first which made tampons uncomfortable. I went to my gp who referred my to a physio and I did a trillion pelvic floor exercises. 5.5 year on I don't have it anymore (it didn@5 take that long. Just my son is 5.5. It also wasn@5 a problem with my second child

I had a slight prolapse.. Pelvic floor exercises helped a lot so I could use tampons for 3/4 hours. A repair was even better - now they don't fall out at all Grin

Uncomfortable going in or is it more of a slipping down issue?

I had the latter. No known prolapse but I've seen a physio and need to do loads more pelvic floor exercises than I was doing (I was doing 3 or 4 blocks, two or three times a day, but now more like 8 times a day plus extra exercises). I can keep a tampon in now (I only use Lillets now as I read on here they were better for this and they were at first, now I'm too scared to try another brand) but still have other issues. I tried my Lunette cup a few months ago and it was really not happening but I haven't had the guts to try again yet. The physio said it will take a few more months to see a proper difference.

You're not alone, and it will get better. How old is your youngest?

Thank you for all the replies.

stacked it's more of a slipping down issue, it's really uncomfortable.

My youngest is 12 months.

Do you think it's worth going to the drs to get checked for a prolapse?

There are physiotherapist who specialise in gynae who you can be referred to. They are usually pretty expert. If you end up having surgery, you should do this first anyway before they will do it.

Yes, might as well though mine didn't check Hmm just referred me for physio. I had/have leakage problems when exercising too though. Physio basically checked I was doing the exercises right (I was!), told me one or two alterations/additions for my exercises and how often I really should be doing them. The fact I have an appointment coming up to check how I'm getting on keeps me going and makes me want to do them more (like I don't want to show up to the class without having done my homework). The slipping down is not happening nearly so much with tampons now so I must be getting stronger even though I still can't do my exercise classes without a pad. Blush

Do you do pf exercises at the moment?

Justhadmyhaircut · 19/07/2017 10:38

Make sure to request the check up standing up for a better result!!

I couldn't get tampons in at all. I haven't used them now for 6 years. Yesterday I had to (heavy period and run out of pads). The tampon went in with difficulty..then turned around!Blush I had to pull the sting with the other hand to turn it back. It wasn't a small one.

Whatcanido13 · 19/07/2017 17:07

I've found them hard to use since having ds. Not tried mooncup yet but have ordered it. I can't see how it won't be uncomfortable since. Tampon is! I have a prolapse.
Terrylene how far after having baby did you have repair?

TronaldDump · 19/07/2017 17:12

Seconding lilets - I found tampax impossible to get on with and they slipped down in no time. Was trying to resign myself to towels when a friend suggested lilets and they've changed my life, almost no slippage and I can just get on with life like I did before! Couldn't get over the difference between them and tampax - definitely give them a try.

I've been using a mooncup about 12 years with no issues at all, it was the best thing ever.... then I had a 3b tear 7 months ago and I'm really struggling with it: leaking, pain inserting/ removing/ whilst in, moving up to high. Urgh! So I'm not sure it may be a solution. I've been having Physio and use a Pelvitone and Therawand plus zillions of PF exercises. Things are slowly improving with the Mooncup but I'm persevering and not willing to give up as I hate pads and also do loads of cycling (I'm not willing to stay off my bike a week a month).

So pleased I read this. Yes I have discomfort and child is now 5.8! Should definitely have thought about it more rather than just accepting it. Thanks all.
