What should postnatal blood look like?

Hello, I gave birth three days ago to a little boy!
I had a forceps vaginal labour that then ended with a haemorrhage, I lost around 1 litre of blood.
The blood that has been coming out and onto my pad has been like a diluted blood mixed with discharge/water? It's not like period blood like I expected? Is this normal?

This is what it looks like but this is from a tissue I quickly put in between my legs as I was trying to air out the area...

Mine was like this, I assume it was normal as I had this with both my babies post labour. It was almost pink throughout, rather than red at any point x

Looks completely normal. Congratulations!

Lochia is different to period blood and I remember a definite yellow tinge like that. Has a distinct smell too, ugh. Glad my birthing days are over Wink

This is normal. Remember this is not bleeding like a period.

Postnatal blood loss is called Lochia and is essentially made up of discharge mucous and blood, the placental site is a wound which weeps whilst it heals, the uterus is shedding its lining and there will also be blood and discharge from the recovering cervix.
