Sex after episiotomy

How long did it take you to have sex after an episiotomy? Mine was 2nd degree. I'm currently at 6 weeks post natal and I don't feel like I can have it any time soon!

Then don't any time soon. Speak to your GP if you think things aren't healing properly.

I stupidly tried after about 2 weeks or so and it wasn't the episiotomy that was uncomfortable, it was the damage on the inside, so we stopped. I think by around 6 weeks it was fine though.

Just had my second baby and this time I didn't have any episiotomy or tearing but I'm going to wait until at least 6 weeks this time as I do feel that it's a bit tender inside still.

There's no hurry. Don't let your partner make you feel guilty or pressured. If you're gagging for it, perhaps you could just be intimate in some non-penetrative way...

Things do feel like they are healing properly, it's just the whole area that feels a little swollen and just not quite back to normal. He wants to wait until I'm completely better, so no worries on that front. Like you've said I'm worried about how it'll feel internally

My baby is 14 weeks and I'm still not healed properly internally. Wasn't sure if it was psychological but had a smear last week and asked nurse to have a look and she could see where it was hurting. I can't believe it can take this long to heal!!!

ijustwannadance · 26/06/2017 22:58

I had a smear about 4 months after. Holy shit that hurt.

My only advice if trying sex is to use lube. Even if you think you don't need it.

Mine was still sore & stingy at 6 week check GP said it's just got to heal... Health Visitor said get it checked again so saw a gynecologist who cauterized it at 10 weeks and it got better OVERNIGHT- totally pain free! (It was raw scar tissue that wasn't healing). Really recommend getting it checked again if you're not happy with it.

16 / 18 weeks ish postpartum. It was uncomfortable for the first few times. We used condoms at first and weirdly that was more uncomfortable than without them (we stopped using them once I was back on the pill).

As a PP said, use lube, try to relax, go slowly, stop if it's painful.

Cookies77 · 26/06/2017 23:15

5 or 6 months for me, although my stitches did fall out so healing took longer!

Pickerel · 26/06/2017 23:16

Six weeks for me

elevenclips · 26/06/2017 23:29

My episiotomy healed quickly and easily. So 6 weeks. H wouldn't do it without the 6 week postnatal check, he was terrified of ripping cut!
If you don't feel ok then don't do it.
But have the 6wk check and ask the doc to give you the ok.

Tried it about 2 months pp, was really painful and not a pleasant experience for me. Didn't feel comfortable until about 6 months pp. Also due to lack of sleep, I really didn't feel in the mood for any intimacy until months after having daughter

OutnumberedbyFurchesters · 26/06/2017 23:50

3 weeks for me. After a 2nd almost 3rd degree one.

I have no idea why... I was still in a fog of baby brain so may not have realised my fanjo was on fire... not recommended. Was another 6 weeks after this that we tried again..
