Hi everyone I am so confused! My baby is 6 days old today and I had a 3rd degree tear and then bad reactions to antibiotics which gave me horrendous diarrhoea for a few days. I was very dehydrated but also not eating. Over that now but still not got a huge appetite - I am working on that but was advised to stay on carbs and protein (no dairy and veg) for a few days to keep the diarrhoea at bay. I have been keeping myself hydrated (could I just be providing water though??) and persevered with breast feeding (it was some dark days!) but even though the baby is latching (or seems to be) and is now on the milk she hasn't done any pooh in a nappy today and is being a little unsettled today, keeps feeding but then it's a wet nappy again. Is this normal?? What should I do if not? Is my diet lacking therefore hers is? I am also so hormonal and worried and I just can't seem to think straight!! Thanks for any help!! I just can't think here xx

Hi! So sorry to hear you're having a hard time. 3rd degree tearing is painful! Make sure to take it as easy as possible and don't try and do too much.
Regarding the feeding, definitely don't worry about drinking too much water- this helps with the supply. Esp when the weather is hot! The first while it's hard to know how much the baby is getting, having wet nappies is great! If I recall correctly sometimes they don't pooh every day, have you spoken /seen a midwife or a health visitor ? In the U.K. They come around in the days after the birth. Just try to keep up the feeding on demand and when your milk comes in you'll know all about it!!

From what I remember, breasted babies do poo less. Wet nappies are a good thing, but not pooing is also fine, as long as it hasn't been days and days with no stools, should be fine.
Speak to your midwife or health visitor if you're worried though.
