Vulvar Hematoma TMI WARNING!!

Hi All,

So Saturday I went to hospital to be induced at 37.1 due to a health condition.

I had my waters broken on Monday & went into labour.

I was then rushed to theatre for a forceps delivery as the cord was around baby's neck.

They had to cut me which wasn't such an issue until AFTER I'd been seen back up.

Around half hour on recovery ward, I started losing blood, although I'd already lost 500ml during delivery.

I also started experiencing excruciating pain which I had to be rushed back to theatre for.

I had 2 blood clots in my vagina, which had formed because of being cut for the forceps, I also lost another 1000ml of blood.

I am attaching a picture too, this is what all the docs/midwives have been talking about since Monday, they all can't believe how severe it really is, all asked to see the pic too.

Has ANYONE else on here had anything like this too??

*[Note from MNHQ - We've now removed the pic at the OP's request]

Your poor chuff OP.

No advice but much sympathy from me. Are you bfing? Co sleeping? If not gin will definitely help.

If you are doing either let me know and I will have a few on your behalf. In the interests of solidarity and all that.

PossumInAPearTree · 01/04/2017 16:16

When did you last have it seen? I'd just be a little bit worried if it gets worse at times that there's still some bleeding causing it to get worse?

You will recover. Just bad in the mean time.

Look I'm not offended at all by a photo of your (poor battered) bits but I do wonder for your own sake if your perhaps rather it was removed, it's a public website and Abu old perv could find or copy it?

I do hope you feel better soon

So sorry this happened to you. I had this during my traumatic birth to DD1 (haematoma, 50+ internal stiches, 3000ml blood loss). It will be painful for quite a while and I used shower hear/water jugs to use the toilet. But it did disappear completely eventually.

Lunde · 01/04/2017 16:39

Just to add that I had DD2 2 years later - I was called for a consultant check at 12 weeks to assess the damage from dd1 - the consultant said that there was no sign of me ever having had a baby and everything had healed perfectly. DD2 was a much easier birth and I went home 12 hours later.

Ihateandysdinosauradventures · 01/04/2017 16:41

As a student nurse. Thanks for sharing. Gosh it's pretty uncomfortable looking.

Chrysanthemum5 · 01/04/2017 16:44

DD had an accident on a trampoline which resulted in massive bruising and swelling of her vulva. It was far worse than yours. It after a week of salt baths twice a day it was well on its way back to normal. Once the bruising went away it went completely back to normal and she's had no problems with it.

Best wishes to you

MargotLovedTom1 · 01/04/2017 16:48

Gawd that looks bloody painful. Would one of those doughnut cushions to sit on help, so there's no pressure on the affected area? You must be really uncomfortable not being able to poo for days either - could you take some laxatives to help it on its way?

gamerchick · 01/04/2017 16:49

Yeah or the press.

Looks sore OP, salty baths and a hairdryer set on cold for the stitches. Maybe elevate your bottom while lying down might help drain it a bit so you can poo?

RJnomore1 · 01/04/2017 17:22

That should be any Angry

RJnomore1 · 01/04/2017 17:23

Oh ffs that should be Blush I'll just shut up and wish you a speedy recovery op

Toobloodytired · 01/04/2017 18:10

Thanks all, only shared the picture as wanted people to base advice on actually seeing it.

The hospital did ask for a picture to keep as even the most senior midwives & doctors hadn't seen one that severe before. I had them all asking to see it!

As you can imagine, I am no longer "embarrassed" about people seeing it!

I will however take your advice & request mumsnet remove it as I feel I have now been given great advice on how to treat it!

I'm not offended by it or anything but I'm not sure it's appropriate to post it.
I'd feel the same about any other personal body part from a man or woman though.

Good luck op, hope it calms down soon. Does look bloody sore Flowers

BigBrownSofa123 · 01/04/2017 18:15

X post.

milleniumhandandprawn · 01/04/2017 18:32

Mine was a bit like that after my first birth. No, real advice, only reassurance that it does get better eventually!
I think my swelling was pretty much gone at 2 weeks.

I remember being horrified when I saw it after the birth though - I had no clue that could/would happen!
Congratulations on your baby OP :)

Hi Toobloodytired,

We've removed the photo now, as requested (and edited the thread title accordingly).

Really hope you and your little one are doing okay.

Toobloodytired · 01/04/2017 19:45

Thanks mumsnet!

Sorry to all who were offended by my not so pretty lady garden!

TMI, finally went to the toilet, nearly a bloody week later! Wasn't as bad as I expected!

Thanks all, I will take your advice on board, just want it all looking as it used to!

Sorry TBT for my overreaction and unsupportive comment. I think I should have checked you were a known poster and I did think you were maybe some weirdo posting vulgar photos for a reaction.
I did realise from the title what the subject matter was I just wasn't expecting a full-on photo as I think it was clear what you were talking about...
If I recall witch hazel soaked sanitary towels were helpful after a long and painful pushing stage ending in forceps. I didn't sit straight for weeks and kind of relaxed to my side and fed DS propped on a pillow.
Sex does happen again, aforementioned DS was my first baby and I have four children. Smile
Congratulations and maybe some arnica tincture wouldn't go amiss?

Toobloodytired · 01/04/2017 22:27

Not a problem isadora.

I only put a picture to show how bad it was & if anyone else had experienced it like that too.

I understand how in your face & wtf it is, I've had friends threatening to block me should I show them! Blush

It seems to be going down, still severely bruised, it's all bloody going on down there!

Honestly cannot wait until it all settles down & looks normal again!

smellsofelderberries · 02/04/2017 03:18

Tired, that looked seriously painful! One of my labia blew up like that and was black and blue after delivery, I clearly remember it was 3 weeks (to the day) PP that I realised I could finally sit down without pain. I didn't have forceps either!
I am now almost 5 month PP and am having ongoing pelvic floor issues, so it might be worth, once the swelling and bruising goes down in a few weeks, to ask your GP for a referral to a women's health physio. You're probably all fine, but just incase you aren't, best to know asap and get some physio happening.
All the best, and congratulations!
