I'm heartbroken/breast pumping help

I am in hospital I have to have a stent placed in my brain- the medication they are putting me on says I cannot breastfeed anymore ( or for the six months I'll be on the medication) . My baby is hysterical and hubby trying to suddenly get her on a bottle . I desperately want to resume breastfeeding in 6 months time if atall possible- if I pump every day do any of you think it will work ? I'm going to use a sealed nipple shield to try and comfort her once I'm home . I'm so so sad and also very scared of this operation. I don't want to sound sorry for myself but I'm feeling increadibly weepy and heartbroken- terrified- any ideas regarding keeping up my supply ? X Thankyou for reading this garbled panic xxxx

You poor thing. Have they said what's next?

littledinaco · 21/12/2016 20:59

You sound amazing. It must be heartbreaking the thought of not being able to carry on feeding. Did you manage to speak to Wendy Jones from drugs in breatmilk?
Good luck, hope everything works out.

Concentrate on getting yourself better. I bottle fed both my dcs and they are fine. I hope that helps. Being in hospital is crappy as you are completely dependent on other people deciding stuff for you and you feel ill so can't enjoy being waited on hand and foot. In the long run of the whole of your baby's life this is a very short time.Flowers

How are you today mummylove?

mummylove2monsters · 24/12/2016 19:11

Thankyou everyone- I am at home for 3 weeks and then back to try again- I am utterly terrified and I'm really struggling to get into Christmas although all my kids are around me . We have tried every bottle - sippy cup - calpol syringe - spoon and milk just is not happening- it has been 7/8 days now and short of squirting it while she screams I am totally lost as to what to do ! I know babies get a certain amount of comfort from bottles but how to do it ???
I'm feeling constantly sick and scared about my operation and weather it will even be able to go ahead - worst feeling I've ever had Xmas Sad

Have you heard of the Minbie bottle? It's the most breast-like I've seen. I have one somewhere you are welcome to if I can find it!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 25/12/2016 01:06

So glad you spoke to Wendy. I take it that bfing is definitely out of the question then? Can I give you a very un-MN hug?

If DD is still bottle refusing, have you thought if using the SNS?

Although it would still leave you with the problem of bottle refusing when yiu are back in hospital.

mummylove2monsters · 25/12/2016 20:37

Ispymincepie x yes we tried that one first - it's a nightmare she's really stubborn 😳
Jiltedjohnsjulie - Thankyou I have actually ordered one of these and will give it a go alongside a sealed nipple shield- I'm going out if my mind Xmas Sad . Any miracle suggestions welcome ( also keep the mn hugs coming- good vibes - prayers- all you've got as I'm still terrified of the return to hospital as well xxxx )
