Newborn DD vaginal discharge - normal?

My DD had white discharge stuff in between the lips of her vagina that we asked the midwife about in the first week and she said that its just vernix and to leave it to go away by itself.
My DD is three weeks today but she still has lots of white stuff in there which has now mixed with some poo from her nappies. We have tried to clean it but it's not really budging. It doesn't seem to be irritating her or anything but I just don't want her to end up with an infection.
I've made a doctors appointment on Tuesday so will ask then but wondered if anyone knows what it might be?

Vernix is the white stuff that's all over the baby and collects in the folds of her skin. Both my DS had that.

My DD is less than a week and has had a little vaginal discharge. According to this site it's normal (reaction to your hormones) up until 6 weeks.

Congratulations on your baby!

Vaginal discharge is normal in baby girls. when my daughter has had poo in the folds of her labia I have used a damp cotton bud to gently clean it away, wiping away from the actual vagina and using a clean one for each 'sweep' away.

My DD had white vaginal discharge for about 2-3 weeks after being born. Sometimes it was stringy. Discharge is normal but get it checked out if you're worried.

Thanks ladies.
I think the reason it worries me is because it doesn't seem to wipe off. We've been trying to clean it in the bath with cotton wool balls but nothing comes off. I don't want to rub loads and hurt her.
The doctors appointment on Tuesday is actually for me but I'm going to ask about it anyway just to put my mind at rest.

It is normal (a reaction to your hormones) but ask the doctor about it for reassurance. Congratulations on your baby!

Thanks BifsWif ... I'm one very happy (and tired) mummy Grin

Ahh I remember the newborn tiredness well - my DD is 5 months now and thankfully sleeps ok! Enjoy these first few weeks though, they do fly by!

Oh I forgot about 'the white' as DH called it! Being a parent is so magical...it goes away after a wee while.

Congrats!
