Three months and counting, everyone! Our babies are gradually getting the hang of the world...and we are gradually getting the hang of them...

Ah yes, DD has a bit of a rash on her back - almost certainly the same sort of heat/sweat related thing as you describe. I'm a bit paranoid at the mo because of my cold so I checked it blanched (it did) and also took DD's temperature - slightly raised, but not to levels where intervention's recommended. Guess we're all a bit paranoid, bc! I've never washed my hands so often, it's getting a bit O/C. Some Spanish friends gave us some alcohol hand rub as a baby present when she was born. I thought, "Hah, as if I'm going to use that" - now it's an essential part of my armory against giving DD my cold (fingers still crossed...)

Also had the asparagus thing - DD tends to do a greenish poo after I've eaten them (they're dead cheap in Spain at the moment, so that's happening quite a lot!)

DD is just wearing a nappy to bed in the heat (past the 30s here now). I swaddle her in muslin, but she gets a bit hot and sweaty in that, making me suspect that at least some of her frequent wakings are because she's thirsty. Not swaddling her usually means she's much harder to settle and doesn't sleep so well, so it's a bit Catch 22. I've found a swaddling method which seems to involve fewer layers of cloth (and should be better at resisting escape) so I'm going to try that.

Yep, another umbrella-wielding loon here! Spanish people who see me with the brolly in the sun usually glance at DD then acquire a look of understanding. She's got a hat, but it annoys her a bit and anyway, I need to get some Baby legs or something if I'm going to rely on that only for shading her when she's in the sling.

Ah she's just woken from her nap. Better go!

Hello everyone!

will be back later, promise, just marking my place.

Weather has just broken here, thundering away... and we had a barbecue planned for tonight...

bethylou very un-mn hugs to you and your babe - especially for him because he's so precious and don't let anyone dismiss your worries.

ClimberChick · 25/05/2010 16:29

The names Climber but you can call me Doctor Climber (well almost just some minor corrections)

Will catch up later

BabyGiraffes · 25/05/2010 17:05

dd2 just had her four months injections. After the first she cried in shock, after the second she screamed and after the third she was in hysterics... I nearly burst into tears myself

cc fantastic news - congratulations!!!

GuernseyFrench · 25/05/2010 19:28

DrCC congratulations

BG hopefully your dd is not going to suffer too much from the injections

bearcrumble · 25/05/2010 19:37

CC Congratulations and well done 'Dr Climber'. Am so impressed.

BG Poor little girl, I hope she is ok now, and not suffering any after effects.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 25/05/2010 19:39

Yay, DrC!! Great stuff, hell of an achievement with a newborn babe 'n' all. How do you find the time to get up all those rockfaces on top of new motherhood and towering academic achievement?!!

Oh, BG - poor you and poor her. DD's got hers tomorrow and I'm dreading it. She screamed last time (3 jabs) and I think she's getting the same number again. I'm wimping out a bit by sending in DH for the actual injections. I'll be on hand to try and calm her down afterward. Last time I needed more calming than she did and I rather suspect it'll be the same tomorrow...

AngelaCarleen · 25/05/2010 20:34

BG DD had her 4 month jabs today too . She only ever screams like that when she has her jabs. Poor wee mite. Again started screaming the place down at 2pm (as she has every time she's been jabbed) but a dose of calpol and a cuddle later and she's fine. At least thats it now until they're a year old . She's come up with little bruises on her legs this time though, was a different HV so I don't know what she's done, but it looks v. sore.

DH's return date has been put back from today 'til Friday. Oh well, DD and I have the bed to ourselves for a few nights longer

Good luck for you DD's jabs tomorrow IC

Well done DrCC!

fiziwizzle · 25/05/2010 22:00

Congratulations DrCC that is an amazing achievement!!

Ugh, jabs DD had her second lot yesterday and really screamed. I can only imagine how horrid it is to give them three. Really, really don't want to.

bethylou · 25/05/2010 22:26

Congratulations Dr C - hats off to you!

BG sounds awful! Hope your little one is okay now the shock is over. I had to explain to DS1 why a lady was stabbing DS2 while I held him still and I said that she was injecting him to help make him big and strong - not sure if I was reassuring him or me!!

Good day here thanks. Couldn't see GP but will try again as the week progresses.

We've had proper contact with chicken pox twice so far since DS2 was born and so far we have not managed to get them so I think contact has to be quite close, although I believe it's an airborne virus. As for colds, IC, I avoided anyone with one till 5 months with DS1 because I could and didn't see the point of letting him catch one. However, DS2 doesn't have that luxury and has had at least 2 proper ones. Playgroups are a hotspot for infections as far as I can tell - we go to one on Friday each week and generally develop some new symptom on a Sunday or Monday of the following week!!

gingerkirsty · 25/05/2010 22:38

I've not posted on here since announcing DD's birth and just spotted this thread in active!

@ Bethylou - have you tried BFing DS2 with him sitting up in your lap? I saw a pic of it here by Kate Evans - I tried it with DD sitting sort of astride my thigh and it worked! Meant to be v good for reflux etc as baby is more upright, probably more so than when bottle feeding.

Hope this helps!

gingerkirsty · 25/05/2010 22:59

Sorry posted that when i'd only read the very beginning of the thread - hope you get some help with your sleep problems x

InmaculadaConcepcion · 26/05/2010 10:16

Hello gingerkirsty long time no hear - how's it going?

Thanks for the good wishes! AC what you describe is pretty well how DD reacted to the last set - sudden big yell-athon for an hour, then very sleepy (that part was quite nice, although slightly worrying). Didn't give her paracetamol last time, but I don't think I'll leave her to tough it out on this occasion.

all my lovely pregnancy thick hair is falling out! (well, not ALL...) - big hanks of the stuff every time I wash or brush it. My wonderful pregnancy skin has also gone to pot and the tranquility I felt is more or less dissolved (I realise I did quite well out of the pregnancy hormones!!) Anyone else missing certain aspects of pregnancy?

Hello all :D

I havent posted since before my DS was born, on the 3rd trimester thread! He was due 14th Feb but came early on the 1st Feb! Was a bit of a shock!

Hope all going well with everyone. We have settled in to a nice routine now.

DS also had his 3rd jabs yesterday he screamed for a lot longer than the last two and got very upset and was in pain a few hours after he is fine today tho.

Nice catching up! :D

InmaculadaConcepcion · 26/05/2010 13:17

Phew, that's the imms done - another 3 jabs. In Spain the system is slightly different. 3 jabs at 2 months, another 3 at 4 months then 2 at six months then no more until 15 months...

DD recovered fast and after a quick feed, dropped off to sleep in her pram, where she is now. I'm wondering whether we'll have a repeat performance of the last set - the one-hour cry, then general sleepiness. We shall see. Yes, I wussed out and left DH holding her down for the injections while I sat outside with my fingers in my ears. I really must toughen up one of these days. I put it down to sleep deprivation (!)

On an encouraging note, DD's measurements and weight mean she's still nicely going up her curve (which is below the normal centiles!) She's now a shade over 11lbs, so continuing to gain steadily.

We had her rash checked and as suspected, it is indeed just a heat rash and nothing else. We weren't too concerned, but figured it made sense to ask an expert as we were there anyway.

Think I'll try and take a nap myself...if she'll let me...

Ooh, sorry - welcome back Glynnispig!

ClimberChick · 26/05/2010 13:31

Well hello hello. Have to admit was still a bit drunk this morning but luckily had some milk left over in the fridge. Though having gone 12 hours without feeding my breasts are rather firm.

Thanks everyone, I wished people called me amazing in RL. For those who asked my PhD was in Semiconductor Physics though on the materials side of things (probably TMI). My viva consisted of me, two examiners, a small room and 3hours of them being able to ask me questions on physics and on my work/results. Basically anything related to my thesis, which was about 180pages long. Sounds a long time but it felt quite quick and was actually rather enjoyable.

The night before LO learnt how to roll back to front (11weeks) and then decided she didn't like it so we were up more often than normal. We've not got our second jabs until next week, will be interesting to see how it goes without be being ill.

BG was left feeling hurt and betrayed by the relevation of your LO sleeping through

Oh and welcome back gingerkirsty and gylnnispig

signing off as I head towards the painkillers (vodka shots should be left to students and don't ask not entirely sure how it happened was going to be home by 11, not 4am )

InmaculadaConcepcion · 26/05/2010 14:03

...and on top of everything else DrCC even manages to fit in a piss up while breastfeeding...!
I take my hat off to you!
And if it's any consolation, my DD is still waking up every 1-2 hours after her initial sleep stretch of 3-5 hours (the latter only rarely...)

I grabbed ten mins just then, but after a wake-up and a quick feed, she's back off so will try and seize the moment....

fiziwizzle · 26/05/2010 15:21

Hi gingerkirsty and Glynnispig I think you were both due date buddies with me (14th)? Congratulations both of you. Mine was a fortnight late... worth the wait!

Well I have the afternoon off (my sister has DD) so I had better start ticking off my to-do list.

Hope you feel better soon DrCC. I have now had a couple of hangovers post-baby and they are truly so much more awful than pre-baby!!

fiziwizzle · 26/05/2010 15:24

Oh and I'm losing my preg-hair too IC I had thick hair for the first time in my life. Very sad to see it all over the bath. I also miss the lovely serene feeling. And the feeling so special. And the general excitement of it all I suppose. But generally, love much more having here here .

AbsB · 26/05/2010 18:06

IC Yes! I miss lots of things about being pregnant! I had such lovely smooth skin and that serene feeling Fizi mentions... about a week after I gave birth my elbows and knees were like low grade sandpaper!!! Also discovered weird long lonely hair on my stomach!!! Thought it was a long dog hair, tried to brush it off and realised it was attached to me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats DR CC, I envy your energy levels... and your incredible brain power... wow! physics! oh and my DD (also 11 weeks) is flipping over onto her front, I had to have a serious talk with DP about leaving her unattended on the changing table!

IC I see your naps are similar to mine - i.e. non-existent!

Welcome back old posters and hello newcomers!

ClimberChick · 26/05/2010 18:09

my aplogies, wrote it all down too hastily (and I'm hungover)

ClimberChick · 26/05/2010 18:15

ooops cross post

GuernseyFrench · 26/05/2010 19:41

I'm not really missing the symptoms of pregnancy but miss been pregnant.

DS does 20mn catnaps about 3 times a day, so no naps for me neither, he normally sleeps from 7pm through till 4am then again till 6am for his 1st feed. So I can't complain.

He is not flipping on his front yet when on his front, but rotate when on DH torso (actually he turns and falls in DH arm). He finds it very funny because he bursts out laughing every times.

flyingcloud · 26/05/2010 20:07

Hello all and CONGRATS Dr CC. I am so struggling with work, motherhood and wifehood so have huge respect for you! Worthy of getting drunk I think.

Hair falling out here too, every time I run my hands through it clumps come out. However skin is great. I had terrible skin until the 3rd trimester when it cleared up, and it's stayed good. It has been horribly dry though. And I have huge stretch marks - so it's not all good.

I don't miss being pregnant though. I hated it, but am seriously considering giving it another go, although I think I should wait a bit longer. I would like to shift my baby weight from this baby first!

DD is wonderful. She is nowhere near rolling from back to front, although she can do front to back. She sleeps through from 8pm to 6pm too. I found I haven't got my old sleep patterns back though and I wake so frequently at night.

She is a little fatty too! I struggle to clean her creases, particularly her neck and under her chin. She has no neck at the moment so I have to force in slithers of cotton wool.
