Struggling to load pages these days and saw we were over the 900 so took the liberty of starting a new thread.

ROFL Essie!!

ktpie · 17/10/2009 09:27

Facebook obviously feels sorry for my dad only having me as a friend, presumably it is busy offering him to everyone I know!

Hope it is going well for Sponge today, it all sounds very stressful for her.

J has diarrhoea today and is feeling a bit sorry for himself, me and DH have both had some sort of cold that seems to be effecting our tummies so I think it is probably that.

poppy34 · 17/10/2009 10:12

Ktpie I think your dad also been offered to me too (so to speak) and sympathies on cold and tummy as have had it here for last week- I had to take Edie off dairy in end after two poonami incidents (including one all over my work clothes).

Deb I agree re mixed feeding as I did bf Edie ok whilst giving her formula - that was not what stopped me feeding. Thing is bf hard enough without feeling done in from birth.

Taking it easy today then off to rugby later - dss home from uni so may see him. Also we are doing a kit of games to try and make Edie walk more - have rejected nannies suggestion that proper shoes may help on basis that I think general advice is not to buy them til they are properly walking. Sympathize as I know she is finding it hard work picking her up but I am bot sure new shoes will fix it.

Am amazed at all the Halloween planning- have just got some new cookbooks so am now starting to think about Christmas which is the time of year that turns me into a cross between a stepford wife and the tackiest woman in the world (I have a lot of Xmas decorations and am toying with buying a playmobil advent calendar "for" edie).

DebInAustria · 17/10/2009 12:01

Step away from the Playmobil calendars - they are full of the tiniest edible looking bits!

poppy34 · 17/10/2009 13:10

Thanks deb - thought they might be

neenz · 17/10/2009 13:32

lol at MWs sticking their boobs into M's mouth .

It is a pet hate of mine when MW's stick MUM'S boob into the baby's mouth tho!

Hope you are doing OK today Sponge, hopefully you'll be able to read this later if you get home .

PiggyPenguin · 17/10/2009 15:39

sending love to Sponge and hoping the bfeeding is getting better. I must admit, I did feel a bit of a bf guru after Essie told me my advice was good (if odd) [preen emoticon]!

We're going to spain next weekend and I am trying to decide what to take. Have decided to take J's baby carseat after hearing horror stories about the state of hire ones but am now wondering if we should take the travel cot too. DH is walking around muttering darkly about the 'kitchen sink' though so I don't think that suggestion has gone down at all well. I hate going on aeroplanes, its just too stressful. Wish we were staying in rainy england instead

PiggyPenguin · 17/10/2009 15:46

Ooo, and forgot to add Poppy we have one of these which comes out every year and is now part of our christmas tradition. I would reccommend something similar. My kids really like it, they spend ages changing the characters around so their favourites land on 'their' days. You can get non-religious santa versions too.

bitofadramaqueen · 17/10/2009 19:00

Well as someone else mentioned Christmas... How is everyone feeling about Chistmas tree's in the house with an 18 month year old. I love the whole tree ritual, but wonder if it's a recipe for disaster just this year. S hasn't shown much understanding/respect for the concept of 'no, don't touch' yet.

Am going to check out the advent calendar link later on the computer!

whinegums · 17/10/2009 19:26

Well done Sponge. Hope the bf is going ok. I was so sore for the first few weeks - dosed up alternately on paracetamol and ibuprofen for the pain. I think it was Poppy who suggested breast shells and sudocrem, and I shall be eternally grateful for that advice.

I've had a bit of a week. My best friend from school told me her husband wanted to end their marriage and he left on Monday. Then I met up with my two closest friends here last night, and after a few hours of catching up and general chit chat, one of them announced that she had had the results of a biopsy on a mole she had removed and she's got a rare form of skin cancer. Many tears all round. She's waiting for an appointment for surgery to remove more tissue and then treatment. It's shit.

Don't mean to bring everyone down after Sponge's lovely news.

Anyway. Christmas. We'll be having a tree as usual (not a real one though, can't be doing with the needles!). When we were kids it wasn't Christmas until one of us had knocked the tree over and broken at least one bauble. I got the M&S Christmas food brochure this week. Dribble.

Sybil, if you're doing a lot of driving, then take the car seat. If you have a seat on the plane for J, you should be able to take it on board and put him in it. Is there not a travel cot where you're staying, or can one be provided?

DebInAustria · 17/10/2009 19:46

Whinegums - so sorry to hear about your friends. Glad they have a good friend like you.

Sybil - I wouldn't take the travel cot , they're usually OK and probably much safer than the car seat!

OK, OK, BDQ, I'll join in with the Christmas chat it feels Christmassy here with the weather! We'll still be having a tree, and if we're still in this house it will be the scrawniest looking specimen chopped down from the garden by ds1 and dh. I did consider putting it and the presents in the playpen, but then I think we shouldn't have to do that, I've never done it with the other 2 and so far no major mishaps.

Neenz - when I had Stefan a mw climbed on my bed whilst I had a visitor and out my boob in Stefan's mouth!

DebInAustria · 17/10/2009 19:46

Sponge - how are you doing today? Anyone heard from her?

DebInAustria · 17/10/2009 19:46

Sponge - how are you doing today? Anyone heard from her?

SpiderWilliam · 17/10/2009 20:14

No, Deb, not heard from Sponge today. Hopefully they are all at home and having some peaceful time as a family.

Whinegums sorry to hear about your tough week and so sad for both of your friends.

Apart from buying a nice velvet skirt and some tops today, not much to report. Appreciating having DH around as he was out on 3 nights during the week and I began to feel a bit lonesome.

ktpie · 17/10/2009 20:38

Whinegums - what a rubbish week, your poor friends.

J is still poorly, got through a lot of nappies, wraps, pairs of trousers and pyjama bottoms today. Picked at his lasagne this evening which is very unusual, although he did manage a clementine, then went and had a load of diarrhoea in the bath, lovely.

I think we will be putting our tree up, not really thought about it, perhaps won't put any very delicate decorations on it, maybe we will put it behind an obstacle to make it a little harder to get to, not sure yet.
My mum made an advent tree when we were little, a christmas tree shape made out of some green christmassy fabric with pockets on for each day and decorated with baubles and ribbons, each year it got hung on the wall and sweets put in the pockets, she gave it to us last year so looking forward to using that.

bitofadramaqueen · 17/10/2009 21:23

That's decided then - the tree stays! Glad you joined in deb one of my mysteriously disappearing posts the other night had lots of snow in Austria/festive type chat.

whinegums I'm so sorry about your friends. I k ow a couple of people recently who's lives have been devasted by cancer and it is so hard for them and the people around them. Thinking positive thoughts for you.

bitofadramaqueen · 17/10/2009 21:24

ktpie advent calendar sounds lovely.

DebInAustria · 17/10/2009 21:32

Ktpie - sorry to hear J is still poorly, how long is it now? We have one of those advent trees too

Spider - jealous of your retail therapy, but not jealous of your long week just you and P - 3 nights with dh out must have been tiresome.

DebInAustria · 17/10/2009 22:30

Shopping help required again -
Nigel is coming to the UK on Monday for a few days to bring back his Mum as she's not been well enough to travel alone since Easter. Whilst he's there he will be shopping and I am just writing the list. Do you have any of these cups for your lo's? At the moment we have the TT 1st cup and had another bottle type which started off non leak but didn't last long. I want something that doesn't need the force of a vaccuum to suck anything out but also doesn't drip when turned upside down. Thanks everyone

vivaGlasvegas · 17/10/2009 23:55

Hi Deb, the link took me to the main shopping page, not a specific cup. I have almost every one that's going so if you give me specifics I might be able to help?

DebInAustria · 18/10/2009 06:33

Viva - thanks, is there one which doesn't work, if there's a rubbish one, I'll steer Nigel away from that and tell him to buy any.

abdnhiker · 18/10/2009 09:25

deb we like this one kids on the go super sipper. I'm currently trying to find another one of these that's not pink as our old one has gotten very uggh over the past two years.

will post more later - DH is trying to dress the kids for church and i hear them acting up...

DebInAustria · 18/10/2009 10:00

Thanks Abdn - your link didn't work either but I found it, will ask dh to look out for it.

bitofadramaqueen · 18/10/2009 11:22

Deb, i'm no good at links on the iPod, but I bought a couple of different avent ones recently, and had bother with each of them. Not worth the money IMO. Watch out for ones with rubber spouts - we had a couple of tommee tippee ones S got on well with, but the spout was rubber so got a bit whiffy after a while. We don't have a dishwasher, which I guess would make a difference but even soaking it in boiling water didn't make much of a difference.

ktpie · 18/10/2009 11:31

Debs - we have one of these for out and about which so far hasn't leaked, also holds a fair bit too. Bit of a pain to clean though, I'm forever trying to scrape manky goo build up from J's various cups with a cocktail stick and this one is pretty bad. Also I think it needs a fair amount of suck to get anything out but it doesn't seem to trouble J. Not much help am I?
Do any of you try open cups with your LO's? I've given J a plastic beaker a few times but last time he tipped it back a little enthusiastically and drenched himself! My health visitor advised us not to use sippy cups at all as they are bad for their teeth but I'm afraid I have, although he only gets water / milk in them so not too concerned for either of his teeth.

The illness has only lasted since yesterday morning, he ate plenty of shreddies this morning and seems quite bright at the moment. Still manky nappies.

Just seen on FB that Sponge is home, hi Sponge!
