Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh and Pat - I've been resisting asking MissJ all those questions for a year now Go for it!!

Have found a job to apply for - ridiculously out of my league but going to give it a whirl...

for those interested

if only eh...

PatTheHammer · 23/05/2009 22:25

Wow, go for it Lenni! Those salaries are soooo much better than anything you get in a school. My SIL is a caseworker for West Sussex and gets paid a fortune, despite NEVER having worked a day in education in her life .

Anyway, bet you would be fab!

Oh yes, do some down to the cotswolds soon, we can discuss all things science, or perhaps just go some nice places and eat some nice cake (hey, like Bourton!!). I know which I would prefer .

P.s am not at all a weird Dermot stalker or anything, just really excited by the prospect of someone knowing him in RL. Honest guv!

LenniEd · 23/05/2009 22:34

I know - I think I'm going to apply, although they are asking for 5 years management experience and I only have 2. Also when I start writing my career to date down in black and white it is full of twists and turns and doesn't really sound like I've got all that much experience in anything so am not sure I would even get an interview. If I could get one I think I might do ok, if there was a post on offer a grade below as a consultant I'd have more of a chance.

Mmmm, cake.

Yes, I had an advisor during my probation as a teacher who had never taught You have to do your time in our profession don't you?

EachPeachPearMum · 23/05/2009 22:34

Lenni-it was working in your local LAC education service- would combine 2 interests- many, many LAC have SEN (c. 28% with statements!
going off what you've previously said... try this

moose cannot believe you had 2 that teethed painlessly so lucky! We (dh & me) felt each and everyone of dd's with her....

btw- baked potatoes have loads of sugars in... which is why when you cut out sugar you often crave potatoes... well, at least it's not refined sugar...

LenniEd · 23/05/2009 22:38

Thanks EPPM - funnily enough had just been looking at one of their jobs. I don't have the counselling qualification it was asking for but had everything else - might ring them on Tuesday and see if they think it is worth me applying.

EachPeachPearMum · 23/05/2009 22:41

x-posts... lenni inclusion advisor is a great idea!
(advisors are v highly regarded usually, and its a good swanky job ) great holidays too....

dog re comments....I had quite a few people who looked a bit and said "well, it didn't look that bad" ... but tbh I just brushed it off- I could see how bad it was, as I spent 24/7 with dd, they only saw her 1 hour a week at mums & baby group...
We did get an awful lot of looks when out though- you just have to develop a thick skin. At the end of the day you know what you're doing is the right thing, and it will be worth it in the end. It can be upsetting though, I know.
It's certainly better that you try this method than she have surgery when she's older, which would be painful, and she would definitely remember.

chefswife · 24/05/2009 00:16

lennied go for that job. sounds good.

sparkleandshine · 24/05/2009 07:05

morning - another 7 hour stretch with James! fingers crossed!

I do love working in the engagement/wedding business - you get some lovely stories of proposals! Mind you did an superb bespoke engagement ring for a lovely chap, just doing the wedding rings and they split up. Strangely we don't get many returns - I though you'd get more ladies saying no or not liking the ring but 99% it seems say yes and like the ring!

hongkongzoe · 24/05/2009 07:47

Lenni Job sounds good, v interesting and the bonus of a decent salary! Which post were you interested in?The inclusion one? Good luck with the application form...I hate filling out htose things.

EPPM DOG Re: Other people and thier insensitive comments..DD has quite a large strawberry haeminoma on her lip which is quite noticable and peopple can be really insensitive. It's funny, because kids don't notice it or are just really straight forward and say 'What's that?' 'It's a birth mark." 'Oh' and move on. I have complete strangers telling me I should get surgery done on it, or telling me things like' Its a shame about the birthmark, because she's so pretty' etc. Its really annoying, its not a big deal, DD doesn't notice it, it will shrink by itself over the next few years and hopefully disappear competely.

Sparkle Hooray for a 7 hour stretch...I got 5 last night so am quite happy with that!

Off to a Green festival today as DP is doing some Amnesty International thing there and we have to stand at a stall all morning, but its sunny and there should be tons of stuff for dd to do and live music etc. Have a happy sunday!

missjackson · 24/05/2009 09:34

Pat BB-related questions welcome, I am sure I have pretty much heard them all! It's always a great dinner-party subject because everyone has such strong views on it - mostly they can't bear it, but then you get the hard-core fans! Dermot is very lovely, just as nice as he is on telly really, and very good at what he does.

Lenni what a great job, amazed at the salary on offer, and out of London too! You should def go for it. Wish I had done something with a clearer career ladder - television was fantastic, but there is nothing part-time. No-one has any jobs at the moment in telly anyway. Am set on the psychology conversion for now and then I'll see.

Sparkle hooray for all the work! Will def come to you when I next persuade my husband to buy me diamonds!

hkz day sounds lovely, enjoy it - looks like it is going to be hot here! I am off to hay festival myself.

LO had a complete meltdown last night, really not sure what happened as we had such a heavenly relaxing day together. He had his bath with his daddy as usual, but when it came to putting him in his bed, he started crying and then screaming, and wouldn't even feed (he always feeds!). He would only stop crying when I took him out of his room and took him downstairs. We tried three or four times to put him down in his bed, but he just was getting hysterical. In the end at 9.30pm we all went to bed in our bed, he was about to start crying again, but I convinced him to latch on, and within seconds he was fast asleep - poor little man! And poor mummy & daddy! Really hope that doesn't happen again tonight....

LenniEd · 24/05/2009 09:38

Yep - the inclusion one. Way way out of my league though, am going to apply since you never know but not expecting to hear from them. Application form a bit of a nightmare HKZ - not sure where to even start.

EPPM What do you do when you're not having children? I'm sure you must be in a similar line of work - feel free to ignore that if you don't want to give too much away. And "swanky" and "respected" sounds wonderful.

Have a nice day at the festival HKZ Sparkle - yay and So you must know the secret sleeping code now then - care to share

sparkleandshine · 24/05/2009 10:12

gina ford

not everyones cup of tea I know but it works for us. I had DS1 sleeping 8 hours at about 11-12 weeks, still working on James and he's 15 1/2 weeks but we seem to be getting there if the last couple of nights are anything to go by....

sparkleandshine · 24/05/2009 10:13

or even gina ford

PatTheHammer · 24/05/2009 11:41

Is GF not an acceptable topic on MN? I'm not keen on the woman myself but understand she has some sensible things to say on daytime naps, plus some ridiculous suggestions on Bfing and training 2 week old newborns. Hey sparkle, if its worked for you then who cares!!!! .

Are you just following the sleep guidelines or are you doing the feeding stuff too? Just intrigued with how it all works really!

Have a great day at festival HKZ, also at ignorant comments received by other adults. We get the same thing over Zach's little skin tag on his ear 'when are you getting it removed.....etc.....yawn', it's a SKIN TAG FGS! DD loves it and calls it his 'Tig', she is v.upset that she wasn't born with one .

Hope you have a great day at Hay MissJ, Nice to know Dermot is indeed as lovely as he seems. He always comes across as so down to earth and not at all up his own arse. Now, there is a real question, who in you experience really is up their own arse??? feel free to just ignore that (or just put initals- hee-hee!)

Oh, and we get those meltdowns every now and again, it's almost like they are so tired but don't want to feed for fear of falling asleep. Don't have a solution really, we just ride it out, he always gives in in the end but it is v.distressing.

Right, must get back to clearing up my garden!

sparkleandshine · 24/05/2009 17:54

pat - in a word no! did you miss the court case?

PatTheHammer · 24/05/2009 18:14

Court case? God, head-in-the-sand me . Didn't really know about Mumsnet till I was pg with DS so it can't have been recent (hopes!).

Ok, take it all back then, she is clearly lovely and never makes any ridiculous suggestions . Must get on google now methinks!

hongkongzoe · 24/05/2009 18:50

Had a hot sunny day here. DD absoulte nightmare. DS very sweet. I am completely sunburnt on my back with some classy strap marks to boot...need to get rid of them before the wedding .
Dd's spots have disappeared...so not chicken pox..hooray.

MissJ ohhh..an old school friend of mine used to work on BB, in fact I think he is about to marry one of the former contestants...you might know him... and, mmmmmm Dermot.

Right, there is a vodka and tonic waiting for me in the garden or a pile of washing to unload and hang out and shopping to unpack... decisions decisions....garden I think.

pat in a nut shell there was a very anti gina ford thread(s) on here and she sued mumsnet for deformation and won....

mind you I find people in general are very anti-gf on here....

elkiedee · 24/05/2009 20:42

hkz, I haven't even watched Big Brother since the second series, but you have got me intrigued, can you fill in more details?

The festivals sound fun. We had quite a nice afternoon here, went to Clissold Park for the first time in quite a while and for some reason I don't think we've ever been in summer/summer weather since this was the first time we've gone when the paddling pool was in operation. It's lovely, much better than Priory Park where we took DS1 paddling several times last summer.

Excuse the pedantry but I think GF sued for defamation not deformation.

PatTheHammer · 24/05/2009 20:47

Yes HKZ, Which former contestant????

Glad everyone had a lovely day, v.warm here and DD had a fab time at the Tweenies, came back and showed us all the moves

Dog drunk on 2 glasses of wine, sounds like me! Such a lightweight these days

missjackson · 24/05/2009 20:54

pat tbh I mostly worked on reality shows so generally regular people rather than celebs, and on any shows where celebs were included, they had to muck in and get dirty so they were all pretty good - actually, in the UK I think no-one is really secure enough in their fame to be up their own arse - it's a dog eat dog world out there! I've had a lot of fun with some of the regular presenters in the cookery/ gardening/ house design world, and generally they are all up for a drink and a laugh at the end of the day just like the rest of the crew.

hkz I know the guy you are talking about, but he was a producer on BB4 I think and I only started on 6... funny that he got together with a housemate, that would be a big NO NO for me! But the HMs on 4 were very 'normal' & that's why it was a big flop!

sparkle am envious of all those who can follow those kind of routines, but it would never work for us, every day is different. LO has to sleep where he can get it...! Great that it works for you - do you do all the strict expressing etc to get over the growth spurts?

dog sounds like you've had a heavenly day - gorgeous and hot here too.

Ended up giving the Hay festival a miss today because I thought it would be sooo crowded given the weather - will go on Tuesday when all the bank hol crowds have gone home . Spent the day in my Mum's garden instead. Ate ridiculous amounts at lunch including two helpings of tiramisu. But all very yummy. Then came home and put some runner beans in the garden, my only attempt at gardening so far this year (the move sort of buggered things up).

enjoy that drink in the garden hkz, sounds lovely!

Good luck with the form lenni. Many a form has put me off doing something! How different my life might have been if the forms had been easier!

EachPeachPearMum · 24/05/2009 21:31

dog it's not silly, it can be very hurtful- it's hard enough being a parent, and wondering if you're doing the right thing all most of the time, so other people making comments really cuts to the quick sometimes.

hkz people are just so thoughtless really- I think it's fear of the unknown rather than stupidity most of the time (benefit of the doubt there ) - it's bad enough for us as parents, but how would children feel having comments made about them ? she's a baby now, so is unhurt, but give it a couple of years .

What glorious weather! such a pity dd has been a ratbag all day... despite a trip to the botanical gardens that she so adores...

PatTheHammer · 24/05/2009 22:00

Mmmmmm, tiramisu, my favourite

My second question is, did you ever do the voice of BB in the diary room???? That must have been fun! Well, the whole thing sounds like a very glam, fun job. But Hey, not as fun as planting runner beans . I would love a little veg patch but our garden is mostly paved. May get a little tub or something this year as DD is V.interested in gardening.

EPPM sorry DD was a ratbag, I would have so behaved on a trip to the botanical gardens, sounds lush .

Going to meet Peppa and George Pig tomorrow, see I mix with celebs too dontcha know

hongkongzoe · 24/05/2009 22:32

elki Went to Clissold park last sunday and had forgotton how lovely it is...did you see the giant rabbit in the deer enclosure bit, dd was convinced it was a goat That's growing up in the city for you!

MissJ Now I really want some Tiramisu...

EPPM I also get loads of really lovely mummys coming up and saying my DC had a birthmark here and its disappeared (normally with a highly embaressed teenage dc in tow who is made to show me where their birthmark was!)
DD was also a little bugger ratbag today...had to carry her from one side of lovely festival full of families having fun, to the other, kicking and screaming with snot exploding out from every orifice

pat good luck with Peppa pig...you're a brave woman

Ok, the BB contestants name started with an A and ended with an A and I think there was another contestant who had the same name that year...(Too scared to put her name on in case she goggles it and discovers I discuss her on internet forums!)

Am feeling slightly pissed also after a shamelessly small amount of alcohol. Fingers crossed for sunshine this week as we're off camping for two days on tuesday why did i agree to this ? Can't wait Will have to stock up on wine supplies tomorrow.
