Thought I'd start us up a post-natal thread for the new mummies of March 09 (or thereabout!)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Slickbird · 25/05/2009 22:18

That was a joke btw. 'God any spare..'.

Honest.

grinningbee · 26/05/2009 08:37

I think it's worth a go - you only need one person to take you up to make the money back.

Can I ask if anyone is still bleeding?

It's 7 weeks and 3 days since the birth now. I stopped bleeding for a couple of days a week or two ago. It just went from bright red to stop. I thought I then started having a period straight away, but I'm still bleeding now and it's quite heavy (tmi - I can feel it running out when I stand up) and has small clots.

So... would you think it's a period, or should I be a little bit worried?

Oh, and for those with unsettled sleep - Amy went to sleep at 12.30, then woke again at 2.45, 4.20, 5.20 and 6.20. How good do I feel this morning! Mind you, she is currently playing the cute card by grinning and gurgling at dangly teddies over her bouncy chair. Bless!

DentArthurDent · 26/05/2009 09:08

Grinningbee - I gave birth on the same day as you and I stopped bleeding about 4 weeks or so ago. I would definitely get seen especially if you are still passing clots. You might need a check for iron levels.

DentArthurDent · 26/05/2009 09:09

Its SpookyMadMummy btw in my HHGTTG name

laumiere · 26/05/2009 09:13

grinning I bled for ages, it petered a bit then I had a 'period' at 5w (I was on mini-Pill so not a real one)and was still bleeding on and off (with occasional clots) til about 10w afterwards. The Implanon seems to have fixed it though!

laumiere · 26/05/2009 09:15

slick If I get swamped I'll give you a call!

TBH the recession's hit the proofing side of my work really hard, people get sniffy about paying someone to check their work. Which is unfortunate, as it still usually needs doing!

I'll never forget the day I saw a Pubic Health Co-ordinator advertised in the Guardian. I wonder if they got any applicants?

jollyjoanne · 26/05/2009 10:23

Laurmiere I'd certainly consider it, I mean in todays climate you with everyone really struggling to get jobs it is probably a good time to be making sure your CV and application forms are as good as can be.

Grinning I thought I had bled for ages but I think it was only about 6 weeks from the birth and then I went on the pill. Although it has to be said my first period was much heavier than my normal ones (well pre-pregnancy ones).

I can't believe so many of you are surviving on so little sleep. Mae is usually sleeping through now with just the odd night of 2 feeds rather than just the one at 4am. Although I had a complete freak out last night as the cat who normally sleeps on my bed was curled up at the bottom of the babies basket. So she will now be getting shut out of our room - I am so scared that she might accidently squash or sufficate the baby.

Welcome vicloumic. Loli I am a little surprised the nursery didn't suggest taster sessions almost all the nurseries I went to see had mentioned them for before we would actually need to leave Mae. I really hope that things improve with your other half, and that you start to feel much more positive about your growing family.

On the clothes front I am surprised in the size differences between shops. Mae seemed to take ages to fit into her 0-3 month clothes but she has nearly outgrown her baby gros and vests, its weird.

fearless - I too am suffering severe baby brain. My mum just asked me on the phone who I was meeting up with tomorrow and, having only just arranged it, I could'nt remember .

Jolly - yes children's clothes sizes vary enormously. DD1 is currently wearing a skirt that is 2-3 but also has stuff that is 5-6 (and she's a small 4 year old !).

Laumiere - go for the advert - as others say, you've only got to get 1 to make it worth while. Once you've put it in keep bumping it so people see it though !

Lily - have you booked your holiday, go for it I say !

grinning - As others have said, I'd get the bleeding checke dout. I bled for about 7 weeks but the last few weeks were really light. Although could it be a period ?

Slick - thanks for the words re age gaps. I do think it'll be fine but I guess because we planned a much smaller one it'll always be in the back of my mind. That said, I think I am currently pleased things worked out the way they are as I think its probably much easier with a 4 year old and new born than a much younger one (hats off to you all !!).

Elsy - hope your (and everyone else still struggling) nights are better.

Not much to report here - had an adventure today - went to meet DH for lunch with both girls in tow which was a bit hairy. Had to get train and bus. Generally fine but our station has a humoungous gap between platform and train and I got a bit stressed getting dd1 on and then the pram. Will leave it until L is in a lightweight buggy I think before attempting it again !!

Slickbird · 26/05/2009 22:08

Who was it that was talking about flat-head syndrome recently? Was it Corgi? Anyway, FB has suddenly developed a VERY flat head at the back and am going to invest in some kind of pillow/mattress or support to help it before it gets worse. If it can be. I think it's the weight of his cheeks!!!

DD1 had this big stylie to one side of her head and she looks ok now, esp with hair, but she does have a really mishapen head on inspection. With boys tho, it is more common and more obvious. Was just wondering if anyone has tried anything and what they thought?

Oh, went to hozzie to get mole checked and possibly removed and saw the same Dr that I saw 5 years ago when I did have a pre-cancerous mole removed and she thought this looked more like a flat wart thing (sorry, I know, really gross) so she froze the hell out of it with Liquid Hydrogen and if it comes away within a couple of weeks then we'll know, if not, I'll get it taken off and checked. The thing is, if I had had it taken off today, because it's on the back of my calf it would be difficult to rest it as I am on feet all day! Anyway, I am as relieved as I can be at this stage. I was really starting to get quite scared and down about it, just because of the history.

Anyway, sorry to go on. Wear sunscreen Y'all!

P.S. Am speaking to FB again as he went down at 8ish last night, woke at midnight and then slept til 7am. Hurray!

Wheelybug · 27/05/2009 08:24

Slick - glad the appt went well. (You know you spend too much time on MN when...) I thoguht last night I hadn't said that I hope it goes ok. Sometimes I get the chance to skim through and read posts, and not post, so when I get the chance to post I sometimes forget some of the earlier posts I've read (its that baby brain thing again). So, sorry, but pleased it looks like nothing serious.

Which reminds me - if Law is lurking - how did you get on with the lump on your leg ?

Talking of docs, am going to take L today to have her cough looked at. Its getting really nasty. Am probably just being a paranoid mother (and its not even my first) but think I'll be happier if I get it checked.

meep · 27/05/2009 09:23

wheely I am just the same as you - I always forget something from earlier in the thread then remeber at starnge times of the day!

Fingers crossed for you slick - if it makes you feel a wee bit better I have a few warty type things that have cropped up during pregnancy - they disappeared last time at around 4 months post natal. But I do have one right under my eye which I really want rid off so will check with the doc about it.

What a great sleep by Boab!7 hours - mmmmmm!

Flat head - I have heard on MN of a Goi Goi pillow - am off to google and will let you know!

Hope wee L's cough is okay - nothing wrong with getting it checked wheely.

meep · 27/05/2009 09:24

here slick

meep · 27/05/2009 09:58

also heart shaped one or this one

Slickbird · 27/05/2009 10:14

Morning Girls, thanks for kind thoughts. I too read through messages and end up completely forgetting by the time I come to post and sometimes right it down. So then DH finds notes that say things like, Wheely - cough, Law - lump, Meep - sleep, Laumiere - Rest. He must wonder what the hell it's all about!

I was wondering about the lumps too, but I couldn't remember who it was - Law and Meep I think? Meep My bf had one come up under her eye while she was pg too. Odd the way the body works!

Have looked at the Goi Goi pillow - thanks meep. I actually saw someone asking about them last night on another site with a picture of the baby and I am CONVINCED it is one of our March ladies! Recognised the bambino. Must check it out. Anyway, I've also seen the body support things and a heart shaped pillow with hollow cut out called a Lovenest(!?). Will try and attach a link, but not very good at those things and don't know how you write 'here'! Will try now.

No, all I can do is copy and paste the url links. Anyway, mattress at sleepcurve.com,
Lovenest is the heart shaped hollow pillow and the thing I have ordered so far is the body support; Bebecal Positioner. Just incase anyone else needs to know.

Hope Lara' cough is nothing serious Wheely. You're right to get it checked put your mind at ease. I still have just as many questions third time round, they're just different ones!

Slickbird · 27/05/2009 10:16

Meep Crossed posts! (How do you do the links?!)

When I say bf had one under her eye, wart not lump!

Wheelybug · 27/05/2009 10:48

Yes, can confirm I am a paranoid mother !! But I feel better so that's fine. Thankfully L obliged with some rasping coughs in the doctors office but is viral. BUt gave me things to look out for and didn't make me feel like I was wasting time.

It is foul weather here today and going out to meet some friends in a bit, thankfully not outside!!

laumiere · 27/05/2009 10:57

fearless Any time mate!

Bad Mummy day today, Michael (DS1) is having a bit of a jealousy thing with the amount of time I have to spend feeding Gabe and has developed a habit of (once I've settled into giving G his feed) refusing to eat his morning toast unless I hand it to him piece by piece (requiring me to disrupt G and put him down obv). He doesn't do it with any other finger food, so I'm thinking it's an attention thing. I did get cross with him though as he started howling and really didn't want him to wake DH. Have decided today may as well be a duvet and TV day for us all, especially as I'm recovering from a really nasty migraine.

DH is currently my hero after getting up after 5 hours sleep to sort out G after he screamed solidly for 20 min yesterday (I desperately needed to clean the house and cook dinner while DS1 was asleep and was about to cry).

Is it me or does anyone else feel guilty they're not giving older children enough attention? DS1 is on half term from his nursery and I feel like I should be inventing lots of fun activities (even though he'd rather watch Igglepiggle and play with his Lego).

Wheely We all have this complex don't we, about wasting the doc's time, but that's what they are there for and when it comes to bairns, you can never be too safe IMO. Hope she's feeling better soon.

Laumiere Weather is also pretty on and off here so I have also decided it is a play with toys day and mega tummy time for FB! We'll only venture out when I have to get DD1 from school.

I think you must have the patience of a saint, so don't feel bad for getting frustrated and shouting at DS1. We all do it from time to time (and A LOT when they are 8!!). I also sympathise a lot with you having a migraine. I had a horrendous one last year on my birthday that lasted a week and I was SOOOOO miserable and in so much pain with it. It was just awful, so I feel sorry for you if they are something you get outwith pregnancy. Sometimes I just want to come and give you a un-MN hug! ((hugs))

R: attention to one and not the other - it's a difficult balance to get right and I have to say, it is ONE of the reasons I packed in the bf when I did as I just felt guitly that I wasn't going to spend enough time with DD2 as she is still so little, the older one was missing out too. But now, I think that DD2 gets plenty attention and I am focusing more on FB. Ahhh, (sigh) a mother's place is always a guilty one....

Slickbird · 27/05/2009 11:22

LOL fearless! I know what you mean. I worry about that too. It's all 'that's enough about me, let's talk about...ME!'

I say praise God Hallelujah (clearly not religious as can't spell that word...) that P has found his thumb. No scrabbling around in the dark when it lurks in some far dark corner at 3am when he's screaming the house down for it. And again and hour later. No, 'did you bring the dummy...' while panic sweeps over you when you realise you did not and what you are in for. No, horror as you watch it fall to the floor in the shopping mall and just know you haven't brought another one. YES, ALL HAIL THE THUMB SUCKERS, for they are GOOOOOOOD.

Re: the feeding aspect, I reckon if he was really hungry, the wonderful thumb will not suffice. Hard though, when your bags are like a bag or frozen peas pulled tight...

Slickbird · 27/05/2009 11:23

When your bags are like a bag...

er...no, when your BOOBS are like a....

Slickbird · 27/05/2009 11:24

Although mine do resemble a couple of empty bags.
