Double buggy or no double buggy ?

Advice needed from those with 2 already... I'm due DC2 shortly and DC1 will be a little over 2 at that time.

Am I going to have to get a double buggy (if so which one ? v. small car) or would I be able to get a away with a buggy board, a "kid sit" or just having tiny one in a sling and big one in the buggy ?

Any ideas ?

I don't have 2, but my ds gave up on his buggy at about 2 and a half, so if you think your DC1 may be the same, then I would go for a buggy board or sling.

I got a buggy here in Aus that came with a toddler seat that you could attach when needed. Three wheeler - very very easy to push even with both dd2 and 3. Dd2 was 2y4m when dd3 was born.

my dd1 was 2 yrs 2wks when her little sister was born

we got on fine with a sit-to-go
she even used to sleep on it

if she did feel like walking - which was surprisingly often - i used to take the seat off and sling it over the handlebars or chuck it in the basket

we did loads of walking - im glad i didnt get a double buggy

I manged fine with a seat 2 go at that age.
Sling and buggy might work better if your older child needs a nap, but it quite hard work to push a heavy toddler and have a baby strapped to your front.

seeing if I can find a link for you.

DS was 2years 1day when DD was born. I lasted for about 8 weeks until my car broke down and I needed a double buggy as DS just won't walk too far at all. I just have an umbrella fold one that I was given from freecycle. It's not fantastic and is quite hard to push but I didn't have the money to buy a better one. It has three handle so I just use the 2 closest and push DS' weight rather than being really unbalanced using the furthest apart handles.

When I am driving a single and making DS walk is fine but when I need to walk everywhere then the double is essential.

Depends on how far your eldest will walk and how much walking you have to do.

I have exactly 2 years between my youngest two and used my double for less than 6 months - although during that time I couldn't have managed without it as I walked everywhere.

Looking back I would have probably bought second hand as it wasn't worthwhile buying new.

And as I've said before, my McLaren Twin Techno fitted into the tiny boot of my Corsa if that's any help.

depends how much walking you do. I put ds2 onto buggy board at 2 and much easier. not so good for long distances though

Ds will be 2 this weekend and dd is a little over 2 weeks old. We are slinging and buggying at the moment. Ds doesn't walk much. We only have a quest so dd won't be able to go in it for 5 months ish. Am hoping that by then ds will walk more! To be honest I think in these early weeks a sling and a buggy is the easiest way rather than a double. Of course as dd gets bigger it mmight change but I can always go and buy a double if it gets to a point where I feel like not having one is stopping me doing things.

Thank you for all your comment... I will investigate the various seat ideas, and maybe invest in a good sling or two and see how we go... I like to avoid the double if I can (no money, no space etc) and I'm very encouraged by what everyone is saying.
