Weaning concerns - 6 and a half month old seems upset after first few mouthfuls of solids ???

Does anyone else get crying after feeding a few mouthfuls of solids? DD is definitely hungry so don't know why she cries. Have to get her up and walk around and then try again... or even breastfeed a bit then continue. (Shouldn't I just give water with meals by now?) I don't understand!!

She's really happy with finger food (toast, bread & cheese spread, well cooked green beans, carrots etc) and can't get enough of fruit. This only happens if I'm spoon-feeding her mashed vegetables. But I can't give her everything as finger food!

She's better if eating with the rest of family (especially older DD) but we usually have lunch while she naps, and eat about 5.30 - 6pm, which i thought would put her off bedtime feed. Also wondered if she was too tired at this time, so brought her tea forward to around 5pm. Makes little difference.

Oh, she was weaned just over 2 weeks ago. Thought it might be frustration at not getting a continuous flow of food... any ideas?

She does eventually eat a fairly good amount, but I'm finding it upsetting that we have this crying in between.

Everyone else seems to have positive weaning experiences at this age - it's too young to get fussy, isn't it?

Help!

hi, my dd is 7 months old and i find if she is too hungry she gets frustrated. she normally has water with her meals and i try to feed her about 2 hours after a milk feed so it's not too bad. dd eats dinner with us and most nights she will eat exactly the same as us, normally around 5:30pm. she gags at mashed food (tasted the stuff myself and almost choked ) so i have started chopping all her veg and have stopped mixing it all up into one big lump. she also loves feeding herself so i give her a spoon to hold when i have to feed her as a distraction. it's only been 2 weeks and your dd doesn't sound fussy at all, just trying to be independant

Thanks Iarel, that's really helpful. Will stop mashing and mixing everything together - that explains why she happily ate food from my plate last night!! doh!

Also need to try not to let her get too hungry. After 7.30am BF and breakfast, she has mid morning BF at about 10.30 then 2 to 2.5 hr nap from around 11, and solids straight after about 1- 1.30 - she must be too hungry by then, I guess... don't want to lose the nice long nap though!

Also, I BF her straight after her lunchtime feed, but I guess I should just give her water (and maybe a little BF before so she's not too frantic???), and then BF mid afternoon so she's not too hungry by tea time.
