Just thought I'd better set up another thread as the old one is just about to run out.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
disneystar · 06/10/2008 16:08

samuel only has the MAM vented orthadontic teats cant take nothin else also i use soft bottles so i can squeeze as he feeds makes life easier if you have ababy thats slow to feed or takes in to much air
i cant do links but you can buy these from
clapa
pigley what a lovely idea for a christmas present
samuel has one of those kick and play pianos
ive been looking at these sites to adopt a granparent as the boys all ask why they have no cousins or nanny or grandad or anyone
its the only time i really regret not knowing my parents as they no other family than me and there dad
danny my 4yo came outta school and said mom whats a granny cos my friend says shes going to her grannys house
anyone have experience of these adopt schemes?

isaidno · 06/10/2008 18:14

ponto - my house is a tip; just can't get it all done. I've never been someone with an immaculate house (actually I am deeply suspicious of those who do!) but lately I am struggling to keep the place from descending into complete chaos.
Les mning might help.... in my case.

isaidno · 06/10/2008 18:14

Where is SK lately?

EEC · 06/10/2008 19:20

disney - I have no experience of adopt a grandparent but think it's a brilliant idea. When we lived in Devon we were miles from all family and did end up sort of befriending a grandfather type who lived near and visited often. It was really nice to have someone of that generation around to chat to - and actually he was a great help in lots of ways - hopefully we were to him too. Have a go!

Why is it that DH can only get R to take 1/2 a bottle, but I can get him to take the whole? It's frustrating for both of us! (and Rory too I suspect!)It makes DH feel a bit useless, and means that I always end up feeding him anyway!

bebejones · 06/10/2008 20:22

Well, no jabs for Phoebe!!! Built myself up to it and everything! They think she now has an ear infection and are worried coz she is only 8 weeks, so she had to have a swab done for testing...which she HATED!! And also on antibiotics, that horrid banana stuff YUK, even the smell makes me heave! So no jabs coz they don't want to confuse things if she gets worse! So back on Thurs to see how things are going and hopefully jabs then!

Noticed a few ppl talking bout bottle feeding and babies refusing or being reluctant, P is being very fussy with her feeding at the moment, could be the ear I suppose?!!? But I am still supplementing bf with formula top ups and she is BFing for less time and then taking very little of her bottle. Being weighed Weds so we shall see if she is still gaining weight. She has just 'discovered' the fact that she can move her head properly to turn/look at things and thrashes around and turns her head away from bottle if she doesn't want it...very annoying but strangely cute! Head moving usually results in her looking up at the lights and screeching with excitement and smiling her head off...can't wait til Christmas, if she gets that excited over the living room light fittings imagine what effect flashing fairy lights will have!!!

purplejennyrose · 06/10/2008 21:58

bebe - poor little Phoebe! The banana stuff is vile isn't it? Really hope she's better soon.

TJuice - I desparately need to do some sort of exercise - my back is soooo screwed up and I'm permanently aching and creaking - feel about 87!

Hope all is well, SK??

minniemummy · 06/10/2008 21:58

Hello all, not much to report here... P is currently wailing on her dad's shoulder because I have had enough of it for one day!! She's not been too bad, just kind of fussing and fractious, think she's at that annoying point where she's knackered but a bit hungry and the sleepiness is stopping her from feeding properly and the hunger is stopping her from sleeping! Grrrrr!

Shortshafe, we have one of those musical toolbench things, DS loves it, you will grow to hate the alphabet song though .

Disney, your savings are guaranteed up to 35,000 per person, per bank so unless you and your DH have more than 70 grand you won't lose a penny. If you do have more than that, well lucky you for one, but put the excess into another bank account.

pigleychez · 06/10/2008 22:23

Disney-

Minnies right but apprently it been upped to £50,000 now. If you have more than that then "Share!"

minniemummy · 07/10/2008 09:30

Yep just saw Martin Lewis on GMTV! So you can have 100,000 in a joint account. I wish!!

disneystar · 07/10/2008 10:15

thanks for that about the bank thing and i dont have that much like 100,000 i wish
ive only got about 20,000 and was worried we were going to lose it its taken a long time to get there
bit of peace of mind now
samuel woke up at 4am and went back down at 6.30 just in time for the rest of the dc to get up i thought hey thanks sam

mama2leah · 07/10/2008 10:52

ok ppl, i need to lose 3 stones!!!!!!!!
will an exercise bike cut it?

mama2leah · 07/10/2008 10:56

ok yes, i have bad back and shoulders too, since labour! grrr

mama2leah · 07/10/2008 10:58

oh yeh i need to ask leah has been goin to sleep pass 9pm now, usual 7-, i dunno wats happened, the last 2 nights... its really annoyin, dunno wat appened!

she 10 weks now

Libra1975 · 07/10/2008 11:48

Hello all, just wanted to say be careful with gauranteed savings thing, yes it's £50,000 but not quite per bank, it's per parent company i.e if Natwest and Lloyds were owned by the same company and you had £50,000 in an account with Natwest and £50,000 in an account with Lloyds then you would still only be covered for £50,000. (this is just an example, Natwest and Lloyds aren't owned by the same company!)

bebejones · 07/10/2008 13:17

Just dropping in again, just want to say Grrr Child Benefit forms!!! Finally getting round to this and it's doing my head in! Downloaded form from website and it says to put it in envelope provided...don't have an envelope I DOWNLOADED THE FORM!!!!!! Taken 15mins on hold just to get an address! Anyway, rant over!! Hope all are ok!

Just a foot note on the finacial compensation thingy...Royal Bank of Scotland, Natwest & Cheltenham & Glos(I think)are all in same group, and Halifax and Bank of Scotland & now Lloyds are in same group, although I am not sure the Lloyds 'take over' has gone through yet as HBOS shares are frozen. I am no expert but would say if you have over the 50,000 be very careful where you put the money. I think Sainsbury's bank are also owned by RBS. Pays to do some digging. Also don't be put off putting money in Northern Rock or Bradford & Bingley, your money is probably safer there than anywhere!!!

Momma23 · 07/10/2008 13:21

Hi ladies,

Just poping in to say hi, (i was minnie1 but have changed to momma23, suit better)

L is doing great, sleeping very well at night and feeging well so cannot complain. Other DDs make up for L being so quiet..

Bought a pilates DVD and watched it once!! Anyone do it? Find it a little to slow IYKWIM.

Disneystar,
Love they way you run your home. Sounds like mine except my DC wont do as i ask! DD1 is getting there, but there young so loads of time to drum it in.

Sweetkitty
Hope all is well with you and your DC.

disneystar · 07/10/2008 14:32

oops bebe youve reminded me i havnt even claimed child benefit yet i forgot all about it......hes only 13 weeks

TJuice · 07/10/2008 14:41

oh god - too tired to take fussy-boots elodie out for the walk that i know will send her off to sleep but she won't nap anywhere else today! hate being this knackered as its hard to be all fun and playful.

now she won't be settled by anyone but me - its so annoying. last night i was trying to get some kip in the other room, but dh woke me up to a whinging baby. as soon as i held her, she stopped and grinned over my shoulder at dh - cheeky little minx!

went to the chiropractor today because of back and shoulder and she manipulated the living daylights out of me! says its a trapped nerve from breastfeeding and lifting baby, pram etc. have dr appointment tomorrow and think i will get physio/massage for it as its on my health insurance plan, thank god.

i wish i had some savings to worry about! i would just like to get rid of my overdraft at the moment but i soon i will be off the maternity payroll at work and only get the government money (which is about 1,000 pounds a month after tax) so not much chance of that until next year.

i should be a responsible person now but i still spend too much on clothes and in cafes etc.

momma23 - i have a pilates dvd too, but haven't even watched it yet. i did blow up the ball and used it for about 10 minutes before i went to the hospital the day Elodie was born!

bebe - sorry to hear about phoebe's ear - poor mite. hope it gets better soon.

oh well, better get out. its a lovely autumn day here and if i can get her off to sleep, i can read a bit in the park. Am reading "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides right now but about half a page at a time . . .

sk - where are yooou? hope all is well.

Momma23 · 07/10/2008 15:20

Tjuice
Just love when they do that!! L always does that and hates being with DP. HE was playing with her last night and she was having none of it, screamed when he went near her! But they get out of that, and turn into daddys girls in no time! My 2 eldest have daddy wraped round there little finger!

As for the pilates, the ball is the best fun. DDs have a great time with it..

cass66 · 07/10/2008 16:16

tjuice - £1000 a month from the gov?? SMP is only £110 or so a week here ( so less than £500 a month), before tax, so I wouldn't complain!!!

TJuice · 07/10/2008 18:46

i know, cass - its good compared to the uk, although that figure was from my self-employed friend and its apparently means-tested so may be much less for me.

but the taxes here are truly horrendous.

ponto · 07/10/2008 22:09

Ooh, I've not claimed child benefit yet either, must dig out the forms from somewhere, thanks for the reminder.

Isaidno, your house sounds like mine, and I take your point about too much mning!

I am struggling with Bryony not sleeping much during the day recently - she used to have a couple of short naps of 45 mins and one long one of 2-3 hours, but now she has two 20-30 min naps and one of 45 mins. At night she has been waking twice in the last few days, having only woken once for weeks. I don't think I've changed anything, guess I've just got a very alert baby, but it's a real pain not having any long blocks of time in which to get things done.

disneystar · 08/10/2008 07:54

sweetkitty and mcchesers girls where you at?

disneystar · 08/10/2008 07:59

ponto re sleeping in the day
samuel has days where he naps for 10 mins then 1 block sleep 2 hours but last few days he woke up at 8am and stayed awake all day till 9.15pm how on earth can he do this hes 13 weeks old
didnt bother me as i thought hey little guy you gotta sleep sometime i can go longer than you (only just)
hes still asleep now
hope all you ladies have a nice day !!!!

Momma23 · 08/10/2008 08:31

L went from 9.30pm to 8am great sleep, but was up and down with DD1 and DD2 ALWAYS THE WAY! Have creche run b4 9.30am and here i am on the pc o well.

Got my child benifit yesterday and have none today!! I feel like a human cash machine.

HOpe you are all well, looks like an okish morning here.
