Baby clicking on bottle

Anyone have a baby who clicks lots on bottle. My daughter is 11 weeks old, she was originally breastfed but started to click on breast at 3 weeks old and troubled by wind and fussiness from then breastfeeding. Switched to bottle feeding and the click happens with bottle too, tried numerous teats and bottles. Some time it isn’t to bad then other feeds it’s really bad. She is troubled by wind and reflux which I think is all secondary to the click and her latch breaking. Her weight gain has also been poor and she take very small amounts only 2-3 oz per feed sometimes only 1oz. Has anyone had success with certain teats or bottles? I feed her upright and have tried putting some gentle pressure under her chin but did nothing. I’m in uk and not sure if anyone has ever been referred to speech and language therapist or anything? Seen at hospital for poor weight gain but they query cmpa but to be honest we have very little symptoms of that apart for wind and reflux. Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you had her checked for tongue tie? My daughters was missed at her newborn check at the hospital but she literally broke my nipples trying to breastfeed and it was spotted then. She was treated and then it had to be released again about 8 weeks later. Clicking, fussiness, poor latch all very familiar

Hi yes sorry forgot to mention that checked by lactation consultant, health visitor and hospital and all said no tongue tie

Was the lactation consultant also a tongue tie practitioner? (Some are, some are not). I ask because DD2 saw eight different NHS professionals, breastfeeding peer supporters, specialist trained HVs, midwives and none of them picked up on her 90% tongue tie. We were combi feeding. She would bf for 20mins and then take an hour to drink her top up, loads of reflux, clicks, dribbling. So slow. It was awful. Got it released at 14w and it made a huge difference. We were also referred to the Speech and Language Feeding team after the TT division, and they helped us to try some different bottles to help her feed more effectively, had us referred to paeds to rule out more serious conditions, and monitored us for a bit to make sure the new feeding techniques were making a difference.

Hi my little girl used to do this clicking sound too for the first few months I tried lots of different bottles which done nothing i ended up using the MAM. After a few months it gradually just stopped. I also initially thought it was tongue tie a lot of people also suggested it was so I had her checked multiple times but it wasn’t, it was then one day i mentioned it to a different health visitor and she said that it was that she had a high palet she had seen it in babies before and it caused no issues. I am not to say this is the case for all children but my little girl has had no problems with speech or anything with it she was an early talker etc. She did however suffer bad reflux up until around 7months not sure if it was linked which was controlled by omeprazole that she now no longer needs.

If I had £1 for every MNer who had been told that there was no TT only to discover that their LO had a massive posterior TT at a later date, well, I’d financially much better off than I am now…

Have a read of this article from Milk Matters and see if your LO has many of the symptoms.

If a HCP tells you there is no TT I’d be tempted to ask what they thought was causing the clicking and if they are a qualified Tongue Tie Practitioner.

Yes, my son. He did better on anti-reflux milk as it’s thicker. He did grow out of it eventually and also had reflux. I would also really recommend an osteopath to
check for any tension.
