How do you mum & baby group?

DD is now 4 months and I've been wincing at the thought of mother and baby groups, but I'm dying for a reason to get out the house that doesn't include mooching around a supermarket or doing laps at the park.
I'm looking at stay and play sessions at my local family hub but I'm just so nervous at the concept of walking in. Do you just talk to staff? Sit down and strike up a conversation, do people facilitate it all?
Am I making it too big a deal in my head? Any advice or reassurance would be greatly appreciated.

Just go! Your head will probably be a bit scrambled at the first one. Dont worry about trying to remember anyone's name! Don't worry about what you look like! Don't worry about being 5 minutes late. Just sit and chill out and if the thought of all that small talk on 0 hours sleep makes your blood run cold then just sit and interact with your baby and wait for people to talk to you.
Which they will, generally just coo ing over your baby and easy chat.
Honestly Mum and baby groups have been an absolute lifeline for me over the last few years.

Thanks so much for replying.
Absolutely know how much of a lifeline these can be but just need to overcome my general awkwardness about it all. I just don't want to not give it a go and miss out all the good stuff they do offer!

Yeah I used to massively overthink it when I first started going to them or get stressed if I couldnt remember peoples names. Then I kind of accepted that these groups genuinely are there for Mums so that means YOU and to just massively chill out about it. Probably have days where i chew people's ear off, other days where i just sit and be a zombie staring into my cup of tea 😂. Dont forget everyone else is in the same boat and there will be plenty of other people whos heads are so scrambled they can barely remember their own name ha.
