What to put on newborn baby in hot weather

We only came home yesterday after our little one was on the neonatal unit after fluid on his lungs and chest after a c section. We have him in a mama and papas Lua bedside crib and last night just put him in a babygrow and cellular blanket.
Would this be ok? What have other people been dressing their babies in of a night? Been 9 years almost since I've done this.
Also when have you started to put clothes on your newborn, we have clothes for him, new clothes and ones from when his big brother was a baby. Have you done it straight away or waited for a couple of weeks.

What temperature is your room? Our room is 22 and the 6 week old is in a vest, 0.5tog bag with sleeves and has his legs under a blanket because he prefers it that way. I think your baby needs some more clothes.

Agree with PP to get a gloegg or other temperature device and work out the clothing based on that especially when they are so tiny. I stayed in babygrows as long as possible for my second baby to enjoy it as much as possible. My first was born in a heatwave and often just was in a vest with no sleeves

Congratulations on your new baby, I hope they are feeling a lot better and you are too since giving birth

There are lots of diagrams online - they were invaluable to me!

Pop your baby in clothes or a baby gro as you wish - the latter is easier, but it’s you’re choice.

congratulations on your new addition - you’ve got this x

@Bobbyelvis4ever Thank you, I've come across so many different ones.

@Alwaystired2023 we do have a glo egg in our bedroom to keep an eye on the temperature.
We popped him in a short sleeve vest last night with a 0.5 tog sleeping bag that has breathable panels at the back and sides.
We have plenty of babygrows from when our first son was a baby. He is doing well, hopefully has put more weight on since being discharged as doing a combination of breastfeeding and formula. I'm getting there gradually after the c section.

@Paaseitjes It's about 22 we have a glo egg in our bedroom to keep an eye on the temperature.
Last night we popped him in a short sleeve vest with a 0.5 tog sleeping bag. We thought he might be too hot with a vest and a babygrow plus a sleeping bag. We have plenty of babygrows and vests from when our eldest son was a baby.

Remember to pop your hand on his chest to get a feel of if he’s warm or cold - limbs can feel
colder on babies

Paaseitjes · 15/05/2025 07:19

Bad luck that you seen to be getting FTM worries twice!

I'm not in the UK and here they're much more worried about babies getting cold. We had to take anal temperature measurements with every nappy and show it to the nurse every day. Is she back up to her birth weight? If not, I think I'd maybe put her in a long sleeve because 22 isn't super warm (obviously not cold either). If she's at birth weight, I'm sure she'll be absolutely fine and she'll tell you if she's cold.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 15/05/2025 10:40

@Paaseitjes he hasn't been weighed since being discharged from the neonatal unit. I'm hoping the midwife will do that on her next visit.

Vest and a bag at 22 sounds fine to me.
At most I'd swap the vest for a baby grow if you're slightly worried - definitely not both though.

They generally let you know if they're cold, and overheating them is dangerous (especially when they're teeny tiny).

Rainbowsunshine81 · 15/05/2025 13:37

@ARichtGoodDram
Just want to make sure he's comfortable.
He seemed to settle after a while in his sleeping bag. Definitely wouldn't put both on him.
