What nappy cream? Baby suddenly allergic to sudocreme?

Always used sudocreme no problem. She has really sensitive skin and alot of allergies anyway.
All of a sudden she seems to be allergic to sudocreme..where I have applied it, it looks like chemical burns, and it spreads where I rubbed it.
I stopped using it and it's gone:(

So help me buy a new creme please? She has flare ups with eczma anyway so I really need a good one for super sensitive skin, it can't have any nut base in it, like almond.

Thank you :)

maybe go basic like asda brand nappy cream its just simple nothing fancy .Sometimes the most basic ones are better

Old fashioned I know, but we always used vaseline on our dcs and even now I have a pot in the bathroom which has been used on dgc if they need a nappy change whilst here. Neither of my two ever had nappy rash apart from one occasion when they were weaning and ate something which gave them diarrhea.
I'm sure there are other creams out there these days but I would definitely give it a go.

Yeah I was worried with tesco/Asda as even the newborn bubble bath sets her skin off and she is 19 months :( so presumed their other products might do the same. I have to bath her in oats during summer months as advised by GP 😅

I'm not sure whether it has a nut base but I really like bepanthem for DD2.

Vaseline works

rosydreams · 03/01/2025 21:47

well the supermarket branded soaps /bath stuff often have scented stuff in them. The nappy cream i have been using very basic nothing extra sometimes you need simple stuff .In my family its the scented stuff that triggers eczema

Do Waitrose still do the nappy cream we all went crazy for as a face cream back in the day? It was a gentle balm like potion.
If it they don't make it anymore try Child Farm nappy cream which is quite easy yo find.

For now, I would say use only aqueous cream or very very gentle plain soap for washing. Dry very well and use plain vaseline until the skin heals. Then decide which nappy cream to use for the future. You might not need to use it as often as you think you should.

Branster · 03/01/2025 21:57

Please don't use any kind of bubble bath or similar products. Even if they are specific for babies. Aqueous cream is all you need. Obviously be extra careful as it is very slippery. When mine were very young, that's all we'd use for washing them.

ShortWide · 03/01/2025 23:02

”Aqueous cream is no longer recommended as an emollient. It contains an ingredient called sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) which can cause skin irritation such as burning, stinging, itching and redness. Some people still find it helpful as a soap substitute.”

I had no idea @ShortWide !!!
We used it as a substitute for soap when our children were tiny. On the basis that it had no perfume and it didn't dry or irritate skin. It was the simplest safest wash product I was happy to use on my babies.
Is there an alternative for current babies?

Weleda is almond oil based. Please don’t use if you have a nut allergy.

Lolloped · 04/01/2025 17:03

Bepanthen is also almond oil.

Metanium daily is nut free and not discontinued. Sainsbury’s and Tesco both have a basic nappy cream that’s nut free that we have used.

Have a look at Neal’s Yard baby balm. It might be coconut oil based though.
