Sleeping baby

Hey All,

Recently had a baby boy. Now just over 2 weeks, I could never get him to sleep in next to me cot at night or any cot throughout the day..he would always fall asleep on my or partner chest...and if we tried to put him down after, he would fuss.

Any tips to get him to sleep alone either at night or throughout the day?

Edit - we don't swaddle baby and usually in two layers of clothing as guided in hospital..room is at constant 17-20 degrees.

Hi. Congratulations on your new baby! I don't mean this to sound rude but I think you need to lower your expectations. He's two weeks old. Have you read up on the fourth trimester?

We used a dummy at day three with our son as we were dangerously sleep deprived. He would then sleep in his bassinet for a few hours at a time which was excellent 🙏🏻

OP it sucks for the parents but this is entirely normal. Sharing the load with partner and doing shifts was how I got through it, we would alternate evenings and overnights in the early days until baby slept through consistently (8-12weeks). Partner would wake me up to feed when needed or occasionally give a bottle, that helped massively.

as for getting them to sleep independently, it slowly evolved for us over time, DC was having none of it initially and only wanted to sleep on us, The moses basket and cot were no go areas, but we persisted and started getting 10-20 minutes here and there, and it grew from there. We were generally back to sleeping properly overnight from around 4 months.

we did get a grobag with swaddle arms quite early on (we had had a couple of nights where she literally screamed and cried non-stop and I was flagging massively), that seemed to help get her settled more quickly so could be worth a look?

Congratulations on your baby! It really is hard in those early stages but you will get through it and look back with a smile in a year or so ❤️

Congratulations!! I've got an 8 week old little boy 🥰 we've found the Love to Dream sleep bags a huge help. Baby feels swaddled but arms are slightly loose. We've noticed a big difference in how long he will sleep with and without it now. He definitely has longer stretches when in it. You can buy them from John Lewis and Mamas and Papas although I've seen a good few on Vinted too
