Cheeky wipes - worth it or can you recommend a cheaper alternative?

We really like the idea of cheeky wipes, in conjunction with wet wipes when more convenient etc. Is it worth paying the money for the real deal, or should I just buy loads of little flannels and a laundry bag plus bucket.

Thanks

Cheeky wipes are just small flannels so you could definitely buy alternatives or make your own by cutting up larger ones. Do price them up though because you might not save that much money, and would avoid some hassle. You definitely don’t need the bucket - we had one but used Tupperware for other changing stations elsewhere in the house.

I do really rate them - not only are they better for the environment, but they are so much more effective at cleaning than wet wipes - tmi but they kind of grip the poo whereas wipes just slide off it. We used ours through 2 kids and I now use them as cleaning rags 6 years on from
first purchase.

Thanks for this - I know what you mean, sometimes you've got to ask yourself is it worth it to save a few pounds, just get the real deal!

They are brilliant. For out and about, a Sistema sandwich Tupperware box fits a few wipes in. I still use disposables for changing but take them for meals and they’re so much nicer for wiping DD up.

Yes yes yes! So worth the investment. Also use some as face wipes - different box and different materials so we can tell the difference. Now ours are a little older and potty trained we just leave them dry and wet with water as and when needed. But they are awesome.

Plus if you are at all interested in prepping, what a great thing to have (not literally) up your sleeve. No toilet roll panic buying!

Yes boots do similar and we're cheaper at the time. But I agree with PP you can use anything. I'm thinking it's time we got new towels so I might cut up all our old ones.
I bought 40 from boots and been using the same lot 15 months now -only 1 accidentally went down the toilet.
We use "poppets" cloth wipe little pod things for the solution. Probably not cheaper tbh but they smell fab.
There's definitely cheaper ways to do the whole thing but they are sooooo much more effective than disposables!

I got boots own reusable wipes but any little flannels work or if you know someone who can sew use old towels and get them edged.
The boots ones come. With a box which I find really annoying. I was luckily gifted second hand the cheeky wipes Boxes net bag for mucky wipes oh and travel bags and they are fab easy to open and close one handed. You can get the boxes secondhand on places like market place. I love th one handed open and close for example.
My so is 10 weeks so we use wet wipes in changing bag as was gifted wet wipes.
At home we use reusable and I use the boots box upstairs.
Once we run out of wet wipes I will use the travel bags for out and about.

We find the larger flannel style cloths better for wipes than the cheeky wipe sizes. We use an empty 1kg peanut butter tub for out and about - it's got a screw top and is the perfect size. Started with the cheeky wipes boxes etc but found the lids etc a pain - just kept a box with damp wipes in or wet them as we go, then wipes went straight in the washing basket.

I’ve got a mix of cheeky wipes and ones I made myself and no difference really. I don’t bother with the clean/dirty boxes or the essential oils - I just have a bowl of water on the change station, pop a wipe or two in and then put it in the bag with the dirty nappies (this only works if you’re using cloth nappies too of course!) With my daughter we used disposable nappies so just used an old celebrations tub for try e dirty wipes.

if you don’t mind second hand (they can be hot washed after all) join some cloth nappies groups on fb - cheeky wipes frequently come up on those very cheap.

We keep wet wipes for out and about. At home we do EC and wash in the bathroom at nappy changes and use a baby wash and use a soft flannel to dry DS afterwards.
No redness or nappy rashes and at 12 weeks DS2 is so used to being washed and using the toilet to relieve himself. We are getting 70% No.2s in the toilet.

Our cheeky wipes were threadbare and in the fabric recycling bin by 2.5 years of use. We never used to essential oils, bit of a gimmick really. The box for dirty wipes we actually never used for it's intended purposes but use as a postbox for small toys instead. Both my kids went through a posting/enveloping schema so it had a use there at least. Otherwise our used dirty wipes got tossed straight into the wet bag or washing machine.

For baby 2 we used cheap flannels from IKEA and they have lasted so much better and better value.

I wish I hadn't bothered with cheeky wipes.

That’s strange, because our cheeky wipes are still going strong 9 years later!

I'd put them in the top five of all baby purchases we've made! We had a mixture of flannel style and the softer bamboo ones and have different patterns for nappy or face washing. 8 years later, they're still going strong and we keep them in the kitchen for hand and face wiping and use others in the bath. The company are really lovely, with brilliant customer service. No skin in the game but I genuinely recommend them all the time. I've also purchased period pants from them but found that they've not lasted very well. I also have their make up remover pads and love them.

That doesn't surprise me, I did hear (when I researched replacing ours) that they made a change to the original wipes and the updated ones didn't last nearly so long and the binding was awful. There were so many reviews and others saying they had the same experience we did at the time I didn't bother to replace them like for like.

Thanks for all the new replies to my post. I think I am just going to see how I get on with the large cotton wool pads and water to begin with. If I find it easy enough to use with the faff of getting water to wet them, I will buy some flannels. Will just play it by ear!
