Hi,

DS2 is now 4 months an I have still not managed the dirty deed with DH!!!!

First BF got in the way long with tiredness but now I just can't get my head round contraception.

Basically I don't enjoy using rubbers, any kind of pill is a no-no and I have been scared off of the coil.

We were using withdrawl and rubbers before but I don't want to take any risks and end up with Child number 3 on the way - not for a good whle anyway.

Just want to get to get my head round the coil and would welcome any comments or expereinces!

(The snip is not an option for a while yet)

Sorry to be so personal!

Think you may be better putting this question on another topic thread - maybe health?

I had a mirena coil put in a month ago. I was also scared of coils, but someone on my post natal thread recommended it and I couldn't use anything else, so I just went for it. It was pretty easy to have fitted, and I've had a few period type cramps since, the only real issue I've had with it is that I've had some bleeding every day since. Apparently this isn't that unusual because the hormone in the coil thins the lining of the womb and it can take a couple of months to settle. After that most people get much lighter periods and I think about a third get none at all. This is quite good for me as mine are usually pretty heavy. It also lasts for 5 years, is as effective as being steralised but is instantly reversable.

I would say try it if you can, it can always be taken out if you don't like it.

Thanks for the message, with this kind of thing its really important to learn real experiences - not just the Doctor's version.

not sure if you have/would consider it, if you can have it if you are bf'ing, but I have the implant, which is fine.

I had the coil fitted about 3 weeks ago.
I went to the family planning clinic and it was in and all over within a minute and i didnt feel anything.
I have the one with no hormones, not sure what its called but it lasts 5 years and i could get it taken out at anytime if we decided to have anymore babies.
I had slight cramps for a few hours afterwards and had nothing since. Ithink its quite common to have spotting or heavier/painful periods for a couple of months then apparently they can disappear altogether.

I had the coil (not mirena, just ordinary copper) fitted about 2-3 months after ds born. Fiting totally easy as still not fully tightened up after birth, slight period pain for a few hours after, nothing bad, periods a bit heavier for the first 2-3 cycles and now fine. My doctor recommended it for me as opposed to Mirena, as I don't think the hormones would work w me (I got v. emotional and depressed while pregnant, all hormone related), and as my periods aren't normally heavy, he thought it would be fine. Haven't had any problems w it at all.
