Leg pain after having baby

Hello

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this after having a baby, I feel like I have some nerve damage or muscle damage in my legs after being pregnant/having a baby, he was a big baby 9lbs 7- it's so bad I struggle to walk without them hurting, if I have been sitting down or laying down, I have to hold on to something to be able to walk properly, has anyone else had this and knows what to do? Or if it gets better on its own?

Thank you xx

How long ago did you give birth, OP? I don’t wish to worry you, but could there be a chance it could be a DVT?

Apologies, I just read your post properly, and noticed you said it was both legs, so I would be less worried about it being a DVT, but still a possibility.

I would see a physio OP. Did you have a spinal? Was the pain there before labour/birth? Is it pain/tingling/numbness? Where exactly in your leg/s. Certainly sounds like the nerve is irritated, a good physio will be able to figure out what’s happening and help it resolve.

Thanks all - it's mostly above my knee area? And my feet, it's honestly so painful- I really struggle to walk. If I wake up in night I have to hold on to the banister as can't walk properly, I think I will book doctors and see what's up! Thanks again xx
And no it was never here before having a baby ☹️ xx

Also @HeartandSeoul @Applestrudelist my baby is 8 months old, it's happened since he was born but I would say it's getting no better, maybe worse! I will
Book doctors and find out what's going on, I haven't so far as thought maybe it was after giving birth but it's got no better ☹️ xx

Definitely worth getting checked over and find out what's going on. Some physio might be helpful once they work out the cause.

@Ratfan24 thank you, yes I think I will - it's awful, I thought maybe it would get better but it hasn't. Thank you x

I had similar, pregnancy aggravated the beginning of a bulging disk in my lower back. I found walking sometimes excrutiating but it would ease with a sit for a while but was pretty much constant.

I saw the doctors and they referred me to physio but the best thing I did was find a pilates class that rebuilt the strength around my lower back.

I wonder whether your arches have collapsed.

When my dc1 was about 3m old I started having dreadful knee pain. I struggled to get out of bed in the morning, walking any distance and climbing/descending stairs were extremely painful.

GP couldn't find anything wrong, so she referred me to orthopaedics. They couldn't find anything wrong, either.

My parents sent me to their private physio. She watched me walk barefoot across the room and diagnosed collapsed arches. The same hormone that relaxes the ligaments in your hips, letting them spread a little to allow the baby to pass through, can do the same to the ligaments in your feet. So my feet were rolling inward and pulling my knees inwards, too.

A few sessions of physio, and good quality shop-bought orthotics, and the knee pain disappeared. I also switched from soft mocassin slippers to Birkenstocks.

@Dilbertian I really think this sounds similar to me as my foot, sometimes I have noticed walk inwards! And it is around my knee area! Thank you, I am going to have some physio. X

@Applestrudelist amazing thank you, I will defo get this looked into xx
